Organizing a Ten-Man Table
Criteria for leading a table:
1. Do you have an overriding burden to help men see they are priests and kings? That Christ likeness and Manhood are synonymous. God equips the called; He does not call the equipped (2 Cor 4:7)
2. Is your heart soft for the men? If you see each man as God sees him and if you find yourself praying for the men God has brought into your life throughout the day, you are a table leader.
3. Are you committed to living the life you are calling the men to live? You can only lead where you yourself are going. The men really want to know if you will do it anyway. Is this who you are, rather than what you do?
Getting Started:
1. Be certain it is in God’s will. This will become clear in many different ways. Here are a few I’ve experienced a) Men seeking you out b) A growing sense that you can’t dodge or ignore it c) A clear set of circumstances that those with eyes to see are clearly able to recognize.
2. Prayerfully identify the meeting place. The best place for meeting is in a public place like a restaurant, book store, or library. This allows for your meeting to become a witness to a watching world. Try and choose a meeting place that has the option of eating together. (See Acts 2.) You sacrifice some privacy and this is a real issue but the huge downside to meeting in someone’s home is the burden it places on that individual to host the meeting every week. I don’t believe it is sustainable.
3. Look in your church directory and identify a list of men who are your target audience. Individually talk with each man and cast vision. You need 4-5 men who are willing to make a commitment to launch the table.
4. Select the best time and day for your core group. You will never have a hundred percent solution but do the best you can. Top priority is that this time, date, and place works for you. Remember you are the point person; it has to work for you.
5. Have business cards produced by the regional leader. You can use these to hand out as you are talking to potential Waterboyz. It should include the time, date, and place of your meeting. In addition it should have your email address, and phone number as well.
6. Set a start date and have it well publicized. Use your local church as much as you can with email updates, bulletin commercials, and Sunday announcement opportunities. Forward the information on to your regional leader and it will be communicated via the many Waterboyz venues – daily dispatches; weekly updates; monthly Pipelines; and the Waterboyz web page.
7. Have a group of men began praying for this table as early in the process as possible. There is power in praying in agreement with each other and in agreeing with God. Bath the whole start up process in prayer, fasting, and more prayer.
First Meeting:
1. Welcome while casting vision – ordinary men becoming mighty warriors in the Kingdom! Make this brief and sincere, give it thought but let this come from the fire in your belly. (2-3 minutes)
2. Have each man give his name, marital status, spiritual age, and job information. Keep this VERY brief, don’t let this become a full biography. While this is going on pass around the new member sheet. This will allow administration to update the data base. (1-2 minutes)
3. Pray. Pray for each man by name, pray for his family and job situation. Make this a pray about how big God is and how much He loves each man individually and specifically. (1-2 minutes)
4. Define the rules and expectations. Cover that the meeting will start AND stop on time, that there is an expectation of life transformation over time, that confidentiality is held sacred – in fact it is cause for dismissal from the group, and finally that the format is modeled after Acts 2:42,43. (3-4 minutes)
5. Describe the scope and focus of the Waterboyz. Talk about the need for a daily relationship with Jesus; the commitment to the 10MEN table for weekly discipleship, community, and accountability; the monthly choice to serve at the margins; the planned fellowship building events like golf; rafting; paintball; etc and the annual recruiting events – 100MEN Choir & Men’s retreat. Talk about SCRAPS and how this is a choosing to sacrifice something we like for a greater benefit – advancing the Kingdom around the world at the margins. Tell the men that the Waterboyz for Jesus have bought hundreds of pairs of shoes, started dozens of micro-businesses, bought water coolers for a dozen orphanages in India, built an orphanage in India and partnered via a God story with a business man to built a three hundred orphan orphanage for a violent tribe of headhunters. All because a few men decided to make little scrap sized sacrifices. (5 minutes)
6. Describe the communication avenues used by the Waterboyz. Ask each man if he wants a daily dispatch (note his answer); Tell them they will receive a weekly update every Friday with all the information about events, activities, and upcoming opportunities; Give each man a copy of the most recent Pipeline and tell them about the web page – www.waterboyz.org. (5 minutes)
7. Give a brief overview of the flow of the meetings. Emphasize that bible memorization, phone calls, SOAPing, and truthfulness about your besetting areas of weakness are critical components of each meeting. Explain that discussing the areas of weakness is to bring it to light so God can begin to bring healing and victory. That it will allow the men to pray specifically for their phone partner. That this is NOT about condemning, providing an opportunity to gossip, or produce judging. It is about iron sharpening iron and being each others keeper. Talk about making a four week commitment to the 10MEN table. Give them an out if it just isn’t working out. Keep your finger on the pulse of each man with phone calls during this start up process. Ask open ended questions and take seriously any and all feed back. (10 minutes)
8. Ask an ice breaker question to help the men begin to get to know it other. This can often be about what was the decisive event in their spiritual walk; or something unusual about their backgrounds, etc. (10 minutes)
9. Close the meeting with a brief reading in scripture. Have each man read a few verses out loud. Spend a few minutes discussing what you read and then hand out a SOAP that you prepared ahead of time of one of the verses. Giving the men an example will help them get a little bit of an idea how to listen and interact with God. Also this will allow them a week to digest the SOAP idea and be ready for the next meeting. (10 minutes)
10. Hand out a new member packet to each man. This includes a) Memo pad (available at any office supply company) b) The most recent weekly update c) The most recent Pipeline d) A business card of yours e) A accountability business card f) an updated list of the bible verses we have memorized over the year.
11. Make sure you close on time by exchanging phone numbers, inviting them to scrap something (NO pressure), and praying out. Identify a man and have him pray for the man on his left. Have this continue around the table. (10 minutes)
Essential elements of the hour:
1. Start and Stop on time. Men will not come to something that begins haphazardly and drifts to an end!
2. Don’t let the opening prayer become a formality. Open your spirit up to God and let Him direct you. Sometimes He will make it clear which man should pray the group in. Other times He will give you a prompting like every other man, or have men partner up and pray together. Keep this focused. Try to keep this to 5 minutes or so.
3. Make the announcements and when appropriate ask for commitments. If we have a serving opportunity ask for a sign-up. Keep this tight and focused. This piece should only take 2-3 minutes.
4. Covering the memory verse is CRITICAL!! As the leader be sure to know the memory verse – lead by example. If God showed you something in your life out of the memory verse during the week, share it. Be vulnerable and honest. We aren’t in the business of guilt but talk about how this is developing the mind of God and understanding the will of God by placing His words in our hearts.
5. SOAP the assigned chapter – CRITICAL!! SOAPing gives us a tool to allow reading the bible to become interactive. It becomes the living word. It also teaches the men how to Journal as a way of helping each of us listen better to what God is saying.
6. Have a Spirit-filled accountability question ready. CRITICAL During the week listen for the question. Don’t stop listening even during the 10MEN meeting. Explain that this is biblical (James 5:16). That the intent is to allow the Light into our lives, to enable us to pray specifically for each other, and that we are drawn to each others weaknesses. In other words being open and transparent creates deep community
7. Have each man write his name and phone number on a slip of paper. Explain that, living the life we each in our heart of hearts desires to live, is easier if we do life together. Challenge each man to take the responsibility of making this call – to pray together, to ask an accountability question, and to encourage each other. Remind them to be sensitive to the other persons situation. Ask him if this is a good time. Keep this phone call to 5 minutes unless both of you are able and willing to talk at a deeper level.
8. Make sure you pray out. Again, let this be an opportunity for the Spirit to stir the ‘how’ in you. Don’t let this become a formality.
9. Remind the men about the SCRAPS. Every few weeks explain what SCRAPS are, give some examples of what you are sacrificing to support this. Explain that together with little sacrifices we can have a major Kingdom impact. While we can dig into our pockets and throw a few dollars into the pot, there is a deeper blessing if we choose to sacrifice.
10. MAKE SURE YOU DISMISS ON TIME! Keep your commitment by dismissing on time. One last reminder – you can only share with others the life you yourself are living. Remember Romans 12:8 and lead diligently. Remember 1 Timothy 3:13 – if you serve well you will gain an excellent standing and great assurance in your faith in Jesus Christ. Be ready for the adventure of a lifetime!

Are you ready for a journey with the living Christ?
The daily challenge of the "6 + 1" and Beyond will take you to places you have never been before. 7 minutes a day that will change your life forever!
The Daily Challenge (6+1 and Beyond) [TOP]
• The instant you wake up – mentally and verbally dethrone yourself and enthrone Jesus Christ as Lord & Savior. (If you need some help – when you go to the bathroom. Let this be your reminder if you haven’t dethroned yourself?)
• To begin your journey - Go to that “special place” in your home where you meet with God each morning
• Pick one of the Gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke, John) to read
• Read for 3 minutes
• As you read, ask yourself these three questions
• What did Jesus say?
• What did Jesus do?
• How will what I just read apply to my life today?
• Now take 2 minutes to Pray in whatever way you do – needs, requests, intercessions
• Now Listen to what God might say to you - 1 minute.
You have just spent 6 minutes on a journey with Jesus!
• Hold on for one more minute (no pun intended). Make a commitment to God to give Him one minute today to speak God into someone that He brings into your life (They may already believe; not believe at all; or not know what to believe).
Do this everyday as you continue through the Gospel. Then go onto the next Gospel. You will be amazed at where Jesus takes you and what you will see together.
Hold on tight! The journey has just begun!
Question and Answer Time:
• Read through the Gospels again using the 6 + 1
• This time instead of noting what Jesus said and did, write down any questions that Jesus asked and the answer
• Do this for all four gospels.
Only the Facts
• Read through the Gospels again using the 6 + 1
• This time write down every time Jesus makes a statement
• Do this for all four Gospels.
Adventure Time
• Read through the Gospels again using the 6 + 1
• This time write down every time Jesus takes a trip
• Where did He go? Why did He go there? Who did He see?
• Do this for all four Gospels.
Remember
• Read for 3 minutes
• Take 2 minutes to Pray
• Be still and Listen for 1 minute
• Make a commitment to God to give Him one minute today to speak God into someone that He brings into your life.
Romans 12:2 “Do not be conformed any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed, by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is – his good, pleasing and perfect will”.
