Dear Boyz,

This week has been one of the most significant weeks the Waterboyz have ever experienced together! Each of us have invited family, friends, and even co-workers to come and join us at the Weinberg on Father's Day. We have fasted (100+) because we cared more about lives being changed forever than about our own discomfort. Young and old, rich and poor, mature and just starting to figure things out, together we trusted what God said in His Word. So today is Friday but Sunday is coming. Whoever comes and whatever happens it will be a day we never forget.... I pray that we will NEVER forget!

During our practice on Tuesday night I reminded you that the attacks would come.............. they have! Many of you have told me about the barrage, the little things and in some cases some really HUGE things. Yesterday Demonte Fowlkes really had a 'crash and burn' day. Someone he cares deeply for hurt him and that triggered some real self-destructive behavior. Pray for him! He is a precious son of the King. The devil desires his soul, so pray for him. There are no doubt others who have fallen for a scheming of the enemy. Don't let the shame, or guilt, or whatever else is tormenting you from getting in front of a holy God, confessing your shortcoming, and find healing and forgiveness, and victory. Making a mistake is no reason to surrender. Press in - press through - show up on Sunday - declare HIS faithfulness - there is room at the cross - this is NOT about you it is about HIM!

The pastors from our partner churches will be there to anoint and pray over each one of you. This will be a chance to find healing, equipping, appointing, releasing, so be sure to be on time - 730am.

If you didn't make it to the practices this year - determine not to miss this singular experience next year. Come and worship with us from the auditorium. Come and hear about the Heart of the Father. Hearing will plant vision of who we can be as father's in our own families. It IS Friday BUT Sunday IS COMING!

See you there!
Paul

The Fishing Day- From Dave Berg: 1st Annual Tommy Phillips Fishing Day was a great day in Honoring one of our Founding Fathers, The day began at Eaton's Fish Hatchery, Chuck Thomas, Dave Berg, Dan Petty and his 2 sons Michael and Alex, and Victor Gonzales were there. I caught a snail, Victor caught a carp, Michael, really wanted to catch a BIG Bass.  Alex was as patient as could be when his line got all tangled up.  It was really cool watching these young boys learn how to fish even thou they knew a lot about it. After 3 hours of No Bites, I called Taysie Phillips and Me an Chuck left an went to Tommy Phillips House.  We sat at her 2 ponds, catching fish like crazy, Bass, Bluegill, Catfish, Crappie - Taysie came down an joined us and we talked, Taysie would like next year and EVERY YEAR for The Tommy Phillips Fishing Day to be held at her place an make it a GIANT ALL DAY COOK-OUT and Picnic for All The Waterboyz and Waterlilyz together. Play Volleyball & eat, Fish, Hamburgers, Hotdogs, maybe a Volleyball Game with Table vs. Table - Water-Balloon Game, and everyone can bring their whole Family out to this event. I have Pictures, just have to wait to get developed. I think everyone had a good time, Great day for some Father & Son Bonding, I'm looking forward to Next Year’s event already !!!!!!!!!

Dear Boyz,

Tomorrow we are holding our 1st Annual Waterboyz Fishing Outing. This is designed to be a family bonding opportunity but at least in a couple of cases it is turning into A LOT more. At least two men are bringing boyz with them who don't have a father in their life. These two men are standing in the gap with these young men and providing them with a great role model. Thank you! (See attached for the details)

As you know we will be singing next Sunday - June 20th - at the Weinberg Center in downtown Frederick. 11 area churches will be closing their doors and coming to join us. Whether you are in the choir or not our 'ask' to you is YOU+3 - make coming to this celebration and asking 3 others to join you a priority. This is an EASY 'ask' - non-threatening place - Father's Day - 100+ Men singing in choir - be bold! God has made it clear that 400 men, women, and children who aren't regular church-goers will be coming - why not have the Kingdom privilege of being the one who asked them?

Here is the BIG 'ask'! I am calling for a fast this coming Wednesday. Who will join me? We will be fasting together so we can draw in close to the throne as we pray for God to have His way on the 20th. Please make praying for this event a daily priority and habit but let's go even deeper together on Wednesday. We NEED your prayers! The community of Frederick NEEDS your prayers! There are some things that will only happen if we fast and pray - together lets pray for a breakthrough. Let's do this thing!

In Him,
Paul

Dear Men of God,

For those 130+ men who were at the dress rehearsal last night - HOW COOL WAS THAT? The Spirit of God was thick in the place.......... I watched the people who would come into the room - it was almost like they had to steady themselves - each of them looked down at their arms because the hair was standing up on end. God IS mustering an army of broken, fragile, fearful, tired, available, redeemed, forgiven, determined, hungry for more.... men. It is an honor to do this journey together with each one of you. Well Done - your heavenly Daddy is SO proud of you!

Monday night at Redeemer Lutheran starting at 6:30pm the will be a steak dinner ($10 if you afford it and free if you can't) followed by worship, vision casting, and a stories told that you will find yourselves in. Remember that place in the Lord of the Rings where Samwise asks Frodo if anyone will tell their story around a campfire some day? The answer is "YES" if you risk something, are part of something bigger than you, and if it follows God's heart into an adventure. The feast is being readied - a dozen or more of the homeless in Frederick heard the invitation and they are coming. What about you? Are you hungry for more?

I want to give a quick shout out to a few of the mighty warriors. First - Dave Griffiths...... thank you for your tireless work on the annual Golf outing held on Thursday. 44 golfers (well 43 if you don't count me.... and you shouldn't) showed up - had a great time - and raised several hundred dollars for a water treatment system in Ethiopia. That wouldn't have happened without your organizing, networking, promoting, and efforts. Thank you! Second - Cam Overs & Doug McFee - you and your team have been so awesome to watch as this version of the 100Man Choir has played out over the last month. Signups, shirt orders, water bottles, overhead, sound setup, Candy gift, lyrics and practice CD's, the list is almost literally endless........... both of you have invested dozens and dozens of hours in 'under the spotlight' ministry and to a man we are thankful. Well done!

This Sunday the 100+ Man Choir will be praising at Redeemer Lutheran in Damascus at 8am and 11am. It would be great to see you there. If you can make it be sure to get your 'worship on' - let yourself go - God called David a man after His own heart and David danced like no one was watching. Let's do a little of that on Sunday. It is Friday BUT Sunday is coming!

In HIM,
Paul

Dear Boyz,

We have a community filled week coming up

  • Tuesday night is our last 100+Man Choir practice - the first three have been 'off the hook' haven't they? Remember REDEEMER-LUTHERAN in Damascus!
  • Thursday is our annual golf outing - we are raising funds for a hospital in Africa - for $35/ea you can have a great morning of fellowship, fun, and you will be building a future into those at the margins - a win all the way around contact Dave Griffiths at dgriffiths@rhpa.org
  • Thursday evening is our dress rehearsal for the choir. Again - REDEEMER-LUTHERAN in Damascus
  • Saturday night we are having a night out at the Key's game here in Frederick. Contact Dan Petty at aaronrpg@hotmail.com
  • Sunday morning the 100+Man Choir will be worshipping at REDEEMER-LUTHERAN in Damascus.

Today you will have the choice - live life the way you always have or live life with a +1 perspective. Determine right now to be available if God has a special plan for you to speak into someone's life or to be His hands and feet for someone today. Don't missed it!

In HIM,
Paul

A Message form Matt Holbrook: Happy to report that Rae and I brought Burke Kancha Holbrook home on Saturday night. Nepal is beautiful and the people there were wonderfully kind to us. All your prayers will forever be part of God’s amazing story for this adoption. It was truly amazing to be in the eye of God’s storm of miracles. From our pre-trip perspective things looked very bleak. A political insurgency of tens of thousands of protesters had paralyzed Katmandu for an entire week. Food shortages were reported in the city, violence was escalating, and all the government office (both US and Nepali) were closed indefinitely. Of the approximately 12 families doing adoptions in Nepal in 2010 (first adoptions there in 3 years), five of the families were trapped in their hotels for a week or more due to the political unrest. On our trip halfway around the world in Doha, Qatar we learned that the nationwide strike had been lifted. Praise God. We landed at the most optimal time. However, the revolting party said they would resume the protest/strikes with escalated violence after May 24th. Our return tickets were for May 21st and in addition to the unknown danger after May 24th, a flight change would have cost us thousands of dollars. We dodged a few lingering hostile protests and breezed through the Nepali adoption/visa processes. The US process was much more stringent and threatened to take weeks or months to complete or possibly result in an inability to get a visa for our son. Several families suffered for weeks through this process. God lead us through the US process and we finally got our visa for the young man with four hours to spare (4:30 pm on Friday). Out of the country on schedule, no flight changes required. Even clearing Nepali immigration, Qatar immigration, and US immigration/customs was a miracle. Best of all, God blessed us with a beautiful little boy who is perfectly tailored to be part of our family. We are so fortunate to have been part of His work. Thanks again for your participation in this amazing journey. -Matt

Boyz,

The Choir practices continue to be amazing as we gear up for the 6th and 20th of June. Additionally, the new devotional books are here and will be handed out in the next week so make sure you get a copy and try to hand one to another person. Many events coming up in the next few weeks. The weekend of June 5-6th is packed with opportunities with the Frederick Keys family baseball outing on the 5th, the first scheduled worship with the Choir on the 6th and then continues into a Monday night men’s gathering as well at Redeemer Lutheran where the Waterboyz have the program for the night after a great meal. Something should fit into your schedule-(maybe all of it).

Please review the calendar highlights below as well as the news & notes, don’t forget to also open up the calendar and the other attachments.

May you continue to shine His light as you go about all of your activities!

A Big Thank You: Please pass this on to everyone who helped out this past Saturday at our house.-Kevin and Vania

Hello Waterboyz and Lilies, Vania and I would like to give you a big thank you for all you did last Saturday. Just to see everyone in action was incredible! We are blessed to be supported by a community of selfless giving, loving people; it is truly heartwarming. Frankly, it is this community that has been our strength during this very difficult stretch... and remember it was this same community that answered the call to help us move into this house 2 years ago... so again, thank you! The inside of the house is immaculate and the outside is awesome! My son Grant woke up later that day and sat on the front porch to relax. He sat there for quite a while watching the waterfall in the pond. We look forward to seeing many of you at this year’s men’s choir... we will have fun! Thank you all again! e love you... Kevin and Vania Jacobs

Dear Boyz,

Last Tuesday night 117 men from 20+ churches gathered for the first practice of the 2010 Edition of the 100+MAN Waterboyz Choir. The Holy Spirit was thick from the beginning of the night clear until Dean Kinna prayed us out at the end. With the theme of "Born Again" and a clear move of God to bring the area churches (6 churches and growing) together using the Waterboyz as the glue...............another confirmation of the Spirit that God is in this thing.

The commitment each man has made is to attend 3 of the 4 practices - so it isn't too late to join. Wouldn't it be a shame to have an Acts 2:1 experience and not be in the middle of it? Take another look at your schedule and see what this means for you.

Tomorrow is 'Serving Saturday' - do you have an hour or two to love in a tangible way a family that is REALLY going through it right now? It is less about what we do or even how much we do - it really is the gift of presence (not presents............).  Reply to me directly at paulfoss777@comcast.net if you are able to serve.

My prayer for each of you is that you wouldn't look at your life at think you need to try harder, do better, or even love more................ it is that you will allow the Spirit to transform you by the renewing of your mind in Christ Jesus.

This week the Waterlilyz launched 8 lilypadz (our equivalent 10MAN table) - many VERY cool stories and some spiritual attacks. Please continue to pray that this prevailing ministry will not be sidetracked or diminished. This IS a God-activity for sure!

What part of the larger story is yours? We are in a real war - with a real enemy - real attacks - and he REALLY wants us dead. But more than dead he wants us to suffer, live lives of quiet insignificance, and then on our last day to see the opportunities lost as we die with no hope. BUT........... God has called us, appointed us for such a time as this, and will equip us to live EPIC lives of great significance and worth. Let each of us choose well today!

Important Choir News: After further conversation with the senior leadership at Tristate we have come to the conclusion that we need to cancel our concert on June 13th. We are excited about future partnership opportunities in the Hagerstown area and have made plans to continue a dialogue with potential for next year. We are exploring some exciting possibilities for a rescheduled event on the evening of the 13th. God is in this and we are looking forward to having more information soon.

Prayers for our Brother Matt Holbrook who is seeking to Adopt: Paul, Rae and I are headed to Nepal tonight. The fellowship of believers with whom I get to spend Thursday mornings sent me off this morning in prayer. They have been a wonderful support over the last four years and it’s great to have a prayer army backing me up. There is huge civil unrest in Nepal right now so we will be flying into a crazy situation. The whole country is on an indefinite strike and there are protests in the street demanding the prime minister’s resignation. We understand their might be food shortages and no transportation because they are blocking the roads. All the government office are closed. Looks like we might even have to walk from the airport to our hotel which is about six miles. It’s a situation where only God can prevail to release this little boy to our care so we can bring him home. Thanks for your prayers, -Matt

A note of thanks to the Boyz form the Good News Event on May 2nd: Paul- What a wonderful day in our Lord!! Yesterday was so amazing. God’s church stepped up and did a truly wonderful job loving and serving all of HIS special people with needs (ALL of us). We want to thank the Boyz for their part in helping and supporting our GNE team in all the many ways that they did. Honestly, I don’t even know all the who and where and how’s of their service, but I know that they undergirded us from the setting up thru the tear down. We are ever grateful. Please forward our sincere thanks to all of them who helped. We are privileged to be part of such a great and amazing church family under Jesus our Lord and Savior. Thank you, thank you. Edie Gordon.

Dear Boyz,

100+ men have already joined the 100MAN choir - if you haven't made the commitment yet take a look at this video and then take the plunge....... you won't be sorry! http://www.youtube.com/user/HuntingRealtor

30+ men are headed to Sky Croft Conference Center this afternoon for a Wild at Heart Boot Camp. If God is increasingly getting clear that you are supposed to join us it is not too late. Call Kevin O'Neill at 301 748-4046 and get the details and let's rock and roll!

3 10MAN Tables have grown so much they are in the process of multiplying. We are going from 3 tables to 7 tables - it sort of reminds me of the early churches explosion of growth. God is SO big and His plans are SO cool!

1 Cool God story - the first serving project that our sister organization - Waterlilyz for Jesus - carried out was to help an elderly women named Tina with some yard work and a few home repairs. The Boyz joined in with this project and it was a great day of fellowship, serving, and loving on her. Next week the Waterlilyz are launching their ministry with 7 lilypadz. Yesterday Jodi heard from Tina who wants to join one of the tables. FRUIT! God provided the lilyz and us clear evidence that this is a God-activity that we are simply joining Him in. VERY COOL RIGHT?

Dear Brothers,

A few months ago God gave me a vision of how we could leverage our annual 100MAN Choir to promote a view of THE CHURCH to the surrounding area. Each Sunday we all go to our churches to worship while agreeing that there is only ONE church and it is the bride of Jesus. What if for one day we all came to the same place and worshipped together? What if we told a cynical, skeptical, and lost world we were joining hands and celebrating together as brothers? A CRAZY RADICAL IDEA RIGHT?

So the first part of the vision was to invite as many of the local area churches as possible to join us for a celebration on an annual basis. The second part would be to have this gathering in a neutral place so we could invite the unchurched community to come and join us in a non-threatening safe way. God actually spoke a number - 400 - into me. 400 unchurched men, women, and kids is the harvest He has prepared for us! Are we willing to risk it, so that we might invite these lost and dying favored sons and daughters of our God to the table?

Over the last week the 'ask' has gone out and so far - Damascus Road Community Church, Monocacy Valley Church, Redeemer-Lutheran, Quinn Orchard AME, Centennial Methodist, & New Day Ministries have all said "YES"! God is clearly in this! So we have rented the Weinberg Performing Arts Center in downtown Frederick (capacity 1100) for June 20th - FATHER'S DAY and on that day the 100MAN Waterboyz choir will do two services at 9am & 11am.

WTHU a local AM station has already agreed to simulcast the service and we are beginning to think about how to get the word out. Here are my two challenges to you 1) Join the choir - this is a unique opportunity to speak with one voice to our community about a passionate pursuing personal God. 2) Commit to 'YOU + 3"........... will you commit to inviting a total of three unchurched people you know - neighbors, fellow workers, friends and/or family members to this event. I'm going to be asking my sons and daughter-in-law as well as the neighbors I've grown to know. Are you in?

There will be more information to follow but this is a fresh move of God to move some from lost to found, from no hope to joy - don't stay on the sidelines - GET A PIECE OF THIS!

Last Saturday a couple of local AM stations did an hour interview with me about the Waterboyz. My 10MAN table prayed for me that I would be bold and clear that we were about transformation not good deeds. That I would be clear about what our motive and goals are - to help ordinary men become mighty warriors in the Kingdom and in doing this we would spill the love God has poured out on a lost world and into us as His children all over our community. I felt the power of the Holy Spirit in the studio. So here is a link of the interview - https://www.seniorstalkradio.com/Paul_Foss.html

Dear Boyz,

There are four REALLY important things just in front of us:

Tomorrow from 12-3pm we are hosting the Westview Church from inner city Baltimore on the church property of Damascus Road Community Church (corner of Bartholows and Rt 144 in New Market). Help with setup; teardown; transportation; fun is needed. Please contact James Nixon for more details iamflame@gmail.com

On April 30-May 1st 40 men will be experiencing a Wild @ Heart Boot camp at SkyCroft Conference center. Are you one of them? Sign up on our web site - www.waterboyz.org and let's get radical together!

This week your 10MAN Table leader will be inviting you to join him as we launch the 2010 Version of the 100MAN Choir. God has BIG plans for us this year! BIG PLANS! It would be a shame if you were sitting in your church seat on one of the three Sundays and not experiencing the exhilaration of feeling God's breath up close and personal. Will you say with over 30 of the Waterboyz leadership "COUNT ME IN!"?

The Waterlilyz for Jesus is launching 6 tables the week of May 6th. Let your wife know she needs to go to www.waterlilyz.org and register to be certain of getting a spot. BIG GOD STUFF HAPPENING HERE!

In HIM,
Paul

Quarterly Breakfast - Tomorrow April 10th at All Saints Episcopal Church, from 7:27 AM to 9:23 AM.  Location is 106 West Church Street in Frederick, MD.  Signs will be out on Patrick Street, Church Street and Court Street.  There are parking decks on Patrick and Court and a small parking lot off the Patrick Street entrance.

Dear Boyz,

Every morning I have been reading the devotional the Waterboyz handed out "The Word for you Today"  - WHAT A GREAT WAY TO START  YOUR DAY! This morning the reading for the day asked this question "Am I becoming more and more in love with God as a Holy God, or with the conception of an amicable being who says, 'Oh, well, sin doesn't matter much?'" As I thought about this I got two visuals - one is of the old etch-a-sketch - we doodle on it - shake it and doodle some more - the other is of a masterpiece - each stroke - each color is applied to the canvas with thought, purpose, and genius. Are we persisting in doodling our lives away by excusing sin or are we increasingly allowing God to take the brush, canvas, all of it and allowing Him to create a masterpiece? We MUST not settle for drift, ordinary, excuses, sacrificing the important at the altar of the immediate...... WE MUST NOT!

Tomorrow morning at 7:23am at All Saints Episcopal Church in downtown Frederick is one appointment worth keeping! This is one of only three opportunities all year to have all the men from all the tables gather together and gain Fresh Wind, Fresh Fire, and a Fresh Vision for our lives. There are currently 393 men receiving this email......... if each of you came bringing your son and a friend it would be an awesome thing. Are you up for the challenge?

Fatherhood is one of the most important understandings each of us need to have in order to be better sons of God and better dads to our kids. God wants to redeem Fatherhood! He wants us to get a truthful understanding of what Fatherhood is - not the lie the enemy has sowed into us throughout our lives. Was your dad gone, abusive, great, a passive presence.......... all of the things he was in some part shaped who you are...... and in many ways who you think God is. Give us 2 hours on the chance it might be life-changing........... deal?

COOL GOD-THING HAPPENING:

In a couple of weeks our sister organization, The Waterlilyz for Jesus are launching 6 or 7 tables. If your wife has been asking you when this would happen - the future is NOW! Take a look at their web page - http://www.waterlilyz.org/

Same Memory Verse, same SOAPing Chapter in the Bible, Same serving opportunities, can you imagine a home where every member of the family is memorizing the same verse, allowing the same chapter to become a living word in each of their lives, This is going to be AMAZING! These tables are going to fill up incredibly fast so don't put this off - join NOW - be part of the launch of this God-Adventure.

I WONDER WHO GOD HAS IN MIND?

The bathroom project at the Basile's is going GREAT! By early next week all the rough in will be done - carpentry, plumbing, & electrical - This is SO cool. A special thanks to Rusty Berg, Dan Herbert, Mallick Plumbing, & Sandifer Electrical! Here is the next 'ask'............. we need to get the membrane (I have no idea what this means but I think we are giving birth................) down so Rusty and his Krew can drywall and other stuff. WHO WANTS TO GRAB THIS PART OF THIS GOD-ADVENTURE? Is there a membrane guy out there?

Later in the week we will need a really good tile guy......... it is more complicated than most projects - are you that guy?

A letter from our brother in South Africa, Johan Fourie: Hi Paul - Attached a perspective of what needs to be done with urgency for South Africa.  Things are a bit tense here. Please pray for us!!  God is good and in control this is yet another attempt from Satan to steal murder and destroy but Jesus came to give life and abundantly so and we choose life and not death.  Johan.

How To Pray For a Nation in a Time of Crisis

Hello,

When a nation is in crisis we can either see what God sees for the nation, and align our hearts and thoughts with Him, or we can be overwhelmed by circumstances and allow offence and cynicism to take control of our heart. We can see how God sees and have faith, or we can see evil and tragedy without discernment - and lose faith. There is no in-between place for the heart of a Christian.

The nation of South Africa has faced a very serious crisis in the last few days. A well known political figure was murdered last weekend. Though two farm workers have turned themselves in to the police for the crime, the murder is being attributed to the influence of a radical political youth leader in the nation and his racist rhetoric.

These happenings have touched a raw nerve in both the white and black communities. There is great concern and fear that the racial divide in South Africa will be deepened. The old wounds of apartheid have been reopened. The pain of the Afrikaner people has been touched deeply. Everyone is aware that if the nation goes the direction of Zimbabwe, immediately to the north, South Africa will be plunged into economic ruin and racial conflict. There is a fear that a civil war could take place.

How do we respond to such a crisis? Do we take sides and let the divide deepen in our own hearts?

Does the word of God have anything relevant to say about such a crisis?

The prophet Daniel in the Bible was a teenager when he was taken captive by the invading armies of Babylon. Daniel as a 16 year old was violently ripped from his family and all that was familiar to him. He was sent into exile, then forced to serve as a slave to the most brutal and wicked man on the earth. Daniel was surrounded by demonic religions, pagan idolatry, palace intrigue, and still he kept faith in God - and he became a political leader of great influence.

There is no other book in the Bible that so uniquely reveals how the destinies of nations are impacted by the choices of ordinary people. We see one man pray, and the nation changed. We read the story and watch a young man given a role of counselor to kings. We are given insight into the throne room of God as the curtains of heaven are drawn back. We watch God judge His people, and overturn rulers and kingdoms to accomplish His secret plans.

There is just one prophetic message in the book of Daniel: kingdoms come and kingdoms go, but God’s kingdom is forever! The message of Daniel is intended to inspire people to discern what God is up to in a nation, then align their lives with what is on His heart, with His purposes. We learn from the book of Daniel that God reigns over the affairs of nations and it is He who allows and uses rulers for His purposes. We learn we are not to panic or lose heart – God is at work.

It is important for Christians today to understand the message of Daniel: if they do not they will have only a human perspective tainted by political views and ethnic considerations. The book of Daniel is not in the Bible for us to speculate about the future, but to understand God’s purposes in the present.

The two most powerful passages in the book are two prayers of Daniel. From these two prayers in chapters two and nine, we learn how to pray for a nation in time of crisis. The prayers of Daniel are located in chapter two, verses 20-23, and chapter nine, verses 3-19.

How to pray in a time of crisis:

  1. Focus on God’s character. Acknowledge God’s goodness, His greatness, and that He is ultimately in control. (Daniel 2:20-22 and 9:4,7,9). Refuse to be more impressed with sin or evil people or wicked rulers than with God’s greatness and goodness. Faith for a nation in a time of crisis comes from being impressed with God, not circumstances.
  2. Thank God for what He has shown you in the past as you prayed for your nation. (Daniel 2:23, 9:3). If you have not prayed with fasting and brokenness and humility for your nation, ask God for forgiveness.
  3. Declare to God in faith that He raises up kings and presidents, and He removes kings and presidents. (Daniel 2:21). Daniel believed his own king in Jerusalem was removed, and the king of Babylon was raised up to judge the people of Israel. God brings governments down if they do not govern righteously. God uses wicked nations to bring judgment on His people.
  4. Confess the sins of your nation in humility. Name the sins of the people specifically. Notice Daniel identified with the sins of his people. When he prayed he said, “we have sinned”. (Daniel 9:3-6, 9, 13)
  5. Acknowledge that the judgment of the Lord on His people are deserved because of the sins of their sins. (Daniel 9:11-15)
  6. Call upon the mercy and forgiveness of God. Daniel believed there was only one hope for the nation, and that was the mercy of God. He appealed to God to be merciful. (Daniel 9:4,9,18-19).
  7. Pray for God’s own sake, for His glory. As you pray, be more concerned for God than for the people or yourself. Too often our prayers are based on what we want or what we feel; our prayers become self-centered. (Daniel 9:18-19)

Dear Boyz,

It's Friday.................  but Sunday is coming!  Take 8 minutes and let this clip soak in...... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=naajYZSbWdw  Today at 2:15pm My wife, daughters, and community (that one true church) will join me at the foot of the cross on the corner of Rte. 144 & Bartholows Road in New Market. We will stop our busy and spend time together remembering the MOST important moment in the history of this earth. Don't be late - we will start at 2:15 and we will finish exactly at 3:00pm - that most holy, glorious moment!

Tomorrow we are going into the highways, byways, the woods by East street, and downtown Frederick to invite those who are homeless, hopeless, and forgotten to a feast. On April 10th at All Saints Episcopal Church in Frederick we are going to have a feast of music, food, and teaching on Fatherhood. We are inviting those who always come when there is an invitation to a feast. If you would like to make some sandwiches, bring water, or anything else - do it! We will gather at 8am at Centennial Methodist on 2nd Street in downtown Frederick. You can bring your family - what would be a better way to spend the day Jesus laid in His grave in the finished work of His salvation?

Speaking of which........... April 10th is our next quarterly breakfast. The theme of the day is "Fatherhood - everyone has one and many of you are one........ now what?" Bob, the Kingdom builder is preparing a meal way beyond our usual excellence, Andy Knight and his son are prayerfully planning an anointed worship time, and Ken Grosnell is going to lead our conversation about Fatherhood. Come and invite a friend - it should be VERY interesting!

Just a little 'heads up' about our 2010 Version of 100MAN Choir - May 11th - is the first practice - more to come!

In HIM,
Paul

Dear Boyz,

Next Friday is Good Friday! The only reason it is 'Good Friday' is because we all know that Sunday is coming - and Jesus rose victorious over death. Every year for the last 20 years an increasing number of men, women, and children have been gathering at 3pm to mark THE MOST IMPORTANT EVENT IN THIS EARTH'S HISTORY!  This is a RAIN or SHINE event............... it is just that important!

If you would like to join us here is what you need to know:

Arrive at the Damascus Road Community Church property (corner of Rte. 144 & Bartholow Road in New Market) between 2:30pm & 2:40pm.  (Be sure to arrive early enough so you aren't walking up during a Holy Moment!) When you arrive DON'T talk with anyone - this is a solemn assembly. Settle yourself, take a deep breath, let the busy of the day go, open your bible and read the account of those dramatic final scenes.   (Matt 21 & Matt 26)  There will be a communion station setup - take a piece of bread and a cup of wine (grape juice) - hold on to it - we will celebrate this sacrament  together. There will be pieces of paper and pencils at that station - write out something that is costly to you that you are offering or have offered to God and place it on the cross. Around 3pm Eric Closs will do a simple reading - we will take communion together - someone will pray - and we will leave. Whatever you write will be burned - it will be something you offer that is between you and God. As you leave don't talk - stay silent - let the weight of what Jesus gladly suffered soak in.

Remember - It's Friday BUT Sunday is COMING!!!

Dear Boyz,

This past Tuesday a man came to the table I lead. During the course of answering the 'God question' he talked about needing to turn himself in to the authorities due to an outstanding arrest warrant for driving while on a suspended license. He then talked about realizing he was in a spiritual war and needed to put on the armor of a Christian warrior to become the man he wanted to be. I saw another man get up after he was done sharing and this man handed this guy something, whisper in his ear, and then sit down. Later this man told me that in that exchange the other man had given him a key chain which had the armor of Ephesians 6 written all around the edge of it. The man then told him that this little gift would remind him who he was and that he WAS in a war. It would also serve as a promise that God would restore his license and someday soon he would place the key to a car on that key chain and he would know that God does 'make all things new'.

The first dominate theme in the new Testament is the message of love. It is THE main theme of God's pursuit of us! You might not know this but the second most mentioned theme is of encouragement. We are called to be encouraged as we grow in our understanding of a personal - passionate - pursuing God of love......... and then we are called to encourage each other. Who is God telling you to call? Who can you pour courage into today? Don't ignore it - don't miss the pleasure God wants to give you. DO IT!

Paul

Boyz,

This week a friend of mine who battles addiction was asked by an acquaintance for a favor. Because my friend likes to help people he agreed and meet the guy very close to Trout Liquors in Frederick. While they were talking my friend saw another person he knew and discovered that she was responsible for running the liquor store. My friend said to me, "Paul - the starting place in a relapse for me is ALWAYS beer so I was very uncomfortable to say the least being where I was." This lady told my friend she needed someone to remove the snow and was willing to pay a pretty good amount of money." Even though my friend was afraid he wouldn't be able to do it and was afraid for being around the liquor store he took on the job.

He went to Rentals Unlimited and rented the equipment - got it to the job site and within minutes got the equipment stuck. His worse fears had come true. He got off the machine started to curse and kicked the tire. He had an overwhelming urge to drink in his anger and fear.......... but he didn't. Instead he called a friend to ask for help not knowing if the friend even could. When the friend arrived with just the right vehicle with just the right hitch to pull the equipment out of the snow my friend began to laugh and thank God in his heart. He finished the job - got the money - and learned something deep and real - we can go places and do things together that alone we just can't. How about you? What are you trying to do alone that just isn't possible? The Fellowship will protect you!

Last story - yesterday I got a call from Jeff. In fact since I didn't answer my phone I got a 911 text. I called him and he told he had just been falsely accused and he was pissed. He was angry enough to want to get his revenge and wanted me to talk him down from the ledge. I prayed with him. I talked about how Jesus viewed himself as a dead man long before he actually arrived at the cross........ in fact because he viewed himself as a dead man the only logical destination WAS the cross and I challenged my friend to die. So he did, he went the second mile to fix the situation and later that day he called me to thank me for helping him walk out the man he wanted to be. The Fellowship will protect you

Our Enemy is hunting us and means to kill us! The Fellowship will protect you! The mission is necessary and worth it - are you in? If you aren't coming to a 10MAN table - maybe this next week is the time for that to change. If you are coming who do you know that needs to? ASK him - keep asking him - not in an annoying way but in a way that tells him you care and want the best for him.

In HIM,
Paul

Dear Boyz,

About 3 years ago a friend of mine began to come to a 10MAN table. After coming for a few weeks he sent me an email asking me to pray with him for two of his friends. One was deeply entangled in a pornography addiction which had lead to a breakdown in his marriage and the other was hiding big parts of his life from his wife. In other words they were just like us before we gave ourselves fully to Jesus. So we began to pray and my friend began to relentlessly ask these two men to come and check out the Waterboyz.

A few weeks later the guy addicted to porn came to a table, experienced deep transformation, and has become an  increasingly bold and effective warrior in the Kingdom! He is a walking miracle both in the influence of his life and the way he has become the spiritual leader in his family. Inspiring!

The other guy was a MUCH tougher nut to crack. He came to a few tables, told me specifically that because he wasn't ready to change his life he would probably not continue to come. Interestingly, off and on I would see him at various events - quarterly breakfasts, seminars, and even a couple of the yearly ADVANCES but he always stayed at the edges.

At the end of our last ADVANCE he made a decision to let go of his past, he began to regularly attend a table, he began to seek out other men who were pushing hard toward a relationship with God. This man recently told me he can't believe what is happening in his life. He is walking around doing ordinary things and feeling like life is better and has the potential to continue to get better into eternity. He is filled with hope, peace, and increasingly joy.

Here is my point............. my friend and I agreed to pray for these two men almost three years ago. One immediately came and the other took three years. Who are you praying for? Who have you invited? Are you ready to let go of a life that is less to pursue a relationship with Jesus on the chance that it would produce a life of more? Don't allow drift, ordinary, or busy to steal the life God wants to give you and then be intentional about inviting men in your sphere of influence to join you in the adventure. You won't be sorry!

LETS LIVE LIFE LARGE!
Paul

No Service Project Tomorrow, February 20th:  There will not be a scheduled service project tomorrow.  We are working out details of the next scheduled time and date and will provide details as soon as they can be worked out

Dear Boyz,

God desires to draw us to reason with Him! Sin has made us unwilling to think, consider, or look into the face of what evil has produced in each of us. Here is our problem – our sins are like scarlet. This is true even on our best day. But here is the most unbelievable offer - God offers to remove our problem! He offers to 1) remove forever the guilt of our sins  2) to discharge the penalty of our sins 3) to destroy the dominion of sin & 4) to prevent the return of sin. Then He tells us how He is going to do this 1) Free forgiveness removing our guilt  2) Full atonement so we can avoid the punishment of sin 3) Regeneration by the Spirit (see our memory verse for this week) breaking the power of sin  &  4) Constant empowering to prevent it’s return in our lives.

So after a week of ‘white out’ conditions – look around today. The beauty of a snow covered world is physical evidence of God’s power to do the same kind of job in our souls. The one who is able to cover an entire region in a blanket of snow can do the same with our sin-stained lives. PRAISE GOD! Let this verse come alive in each of your lives today.

In HIM,
Paul

Dear Boyz,

We lift up two families this week as the mother of Jeannie Foss and the mother of T.J. Jackson’s went home to Jesus.  We pray for peace and comfort for the families at the same time we give thanks to the promise of eternal life.  During the time of reflection of a loss such as these, we are often reminded of the comfort and peace that only Jesus can bring as we cling to God’s promises in Scripture.  At the funeral service for Jeannie’s mom the following was spoken about who this Jesus is….

So in the midst of all the claims by all the religions, Christianity stands alone in claiming that God is a personal and knowable God, so personal in fact that He literally became one of us. This man – Jesus even the secular world agrees existed. Writing about him, here is how one author describes the impact of his life, “If you had to choose the name of the single person who has had the biggest impact on the world, on the world’s history since the beginning of recorded time, that one life that has touched every continent, every culture, every tribe, and every language, there is just one name…….. just one. That would be Jesus.

“He was born 20 centuries ago to an impoverished couple in an obscure village, in an unimportant corner of the world. Only a few thousand people ever met Him or heard Him speak. He never traveled outside of His region. He never wrote a book. He never held an office. He never led an army. He never governed a nation. He didn't even have a home.

“The Romans did not consider this man significant enough to even record His execution, so far as we know. And yet, over the last 2000 years, that one name would inspire the founding of more

universities...Oxford, Cambridge, Harvard, Yale; the creation of more hospitals, the launching of more charities, the writing of more books, the expression of more great art than any other name.

“This name has moved more people to sacrifice their finances, their possessions, their safety, their careers, even their lives, than any other name in history. The instrument on which He met His death…the cross, a mode of execution…has become the single most recognizable symbol in all of the world.

So we cling to this hope and promise…

The bible claims that Jesus was God – “if you have seen me then you have seen the Father!” It claims Jesus lived a perfect life. The world agrees he was killed! His followers claim He overcame death and rose again and His contemporary critics were unable to offer proof to the contrary. No body – no smoking gun – silence………..No other religion claims a resurrection……… no other religion claims that their God became human……. No other religion offers unwarranted, unmerited, extravagant mercy (not getting what we deserve), grace (getting what we DON’T deserve) and complete forgiveness. NONE!

Because He loves us that much!

SNOW HELP: We are massing an Army to serve and be the hands and feet of Jesus in the wake of the approaching snow storm. I am asking every able bodied Man, Women and Family to assist in digging out those who for one reason or not cannot dig themselves out in the wake of the pending  snow storm. Since most churches will be closed Sunday if the storm hits with force, I am calling you to first dig yourself out then make yourself and your family available to respond to brothers and sisters in need. We have established an e-mail alias at WBSnow@verizon.net  and a phone number 301-366-7327 to take request for assistance.  DRCC will be announcing in the weekly news letter tomorrow, that people that cannot dig themselves out (NOT People who DON’T want to dig themselves out) to request assistance. We will star helping people as soon as we can,  after we dig ourselves out. Not sure of the number of request we can handle or will take, but we should be ready for many,

SO Here is the call. Send me, Eric Closs , an e-mail with your capabilities at Huntercloss@verizon.net  (i.e.  2-People, Snow Thrower 24” and 4-wheel drive) or (Snow Thrower, need transport, or Truck with Plow) and what geographic area you can serve, a good phone number and e-mail if you have it. Then as call’s and request come we will contact you and see if you are able. Once you sign up as a volunteer I will contact you to confirm details and then Sunday confirm availability.

Dear Boyz,

This week our memory verse is Matthew 6:33 – “But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.” I can’t tell you how many times I’ve had a conversation with someone who says something like this to me, “I’m so busy I just can’t get to a table”, or “I don’t have time to serve” and then they will say, “God knows I have to pay my rent.” Or “I have to get my kids to the next practice/game.” When you spend a few minutes and really let this verse soak in what strikes you?

A friend of mine in South Africa sent this daily devotional out a few days ago. It is worth reflecting on.

You do not "spend" time with God. You "invest" it. Time alone with Him can be one of the greatest time savers of your life. It is in your time alone with the Lord that you can surrender the burden and the anxiety of the load to Him (Philippians 4:6-7; 1 Peter 5:7). You can also find the perspective to be delivered from the truly nonessential things that often seem important. You can find new energy and ideas as you "commit your works to the Lord and your plans will be established" (Proverbs 16:3). - Bill Thrasher -  Lord, teach me so to conceive time as an unrepeatable gift that I might live my life serenely with Your values in mind so that my life is lived to the full. - Melvin Tinker -  For this cause let every saint make his prayer to you at a time when you are near: then the overflowing of the great waters will not overtake him. You are my safe and secret place; you will keep me from trouble; you will put songs of salvation on the lips of those who are round me. Selah. Psalm 32:6 -7  Take heed, watch and pray, for you do not know when the time is. Mar 13:33

IN HIM,
Paul

Dear Boyz,

REPORT ON JANUARY SERVICING SATURDAY:

Last Saturday we had the opportunity to ‘divide and conquer’ for our January ‘Serving Saturday’. 25+ People showed up at the Shive’s home and under the direction of Bernie Thompson & Victor Gonzalez A LOT of work was done in the home stretch of this project. I’m sure with Victor on the job there was LOTS of laughter and energy! Thank each of you for your investment in the Kingdom!

20+ Men, Women, & Kidz showed up at the Basile home and as you can see from the attached pictures there was plenty to do and an incredible amount done. Under the direction of Rusty Berg & Jodi Foss (I’m SO proud of my daughter) a ramp was built in the garage and almost the entire 1st floor was painted. I’ve heard from several of those who served and the overriding reaction was AWE! A sense that the time invested was time well spent. I can hardly wait for the 3rd Saturday in February to see what happens next!

POSSIBLE HAITI PARTNERSHIP:

I’m sure all of you have been tracking the ongoing catastrophe in Haiti. It seems like there is lots of help on its way for the immediate crisis. Here is a great opportunity for the Waterboyz to take a longer view of help – pray over this and let’s see what God has to say:

I am building and send water treatment systems, well parts and a well drilling rig to Haiti in support of several missions in Haiti. I am also helping organize and teach water treatment and well repair to a team of Haitian Americans going into Haiti. One system is a solar boiler. Since fuel is hard to come by in Haiti, the sun can be used to boil water to solve the water shortage problem. I have hooked up with a well repair mission and EFCA's mission team and have identified shippers, flights into Haiti and a place to stay with water. He is what we are up to: http://justmoney.zapto.org/Haiti  I need builders and guys to call around to donors. Please help me carry some water. We I am not responding to emergencies I am developing a "village acquaponics system" for the Germantown/Clarksburg area. My goal is to feed and house as many people in need as possible. Now I am working on providing clean water as well. Peter James 301 916-5722

URGENT NEED:

If you have a single bed frame & mattress one of the Waterboyz needs it TODAY. He is moving tomorrow and is trusting that God will provide. Please REPLY if you can help.

In HIM,
Paul

A message from Rusty Berg:

I would like to thank everyone who gave of their love, generosity, and talent this past Saturday at the Basile Family Project.  Working together in harmony with the Holy Spirit, the Waterboyz once again showed another family how the love of Jesus is real for them.  Thank you again to everyone who participated! Rusty.

Dear Boyz,

SERVING SATURDAY – JANUARY 2010:

Tomorrow is the first Serving Saturday of 2010 – together we will began to build the story that will be the Waterboyz for Jesus legacy for this year – the year of God’s favor! The sweet spot for our serving is to become known as the “Repairer of Broken Walls”. The Shives have a vision of providing a new beginning for foster kidz and battered women with their kidz in Jesus name. If you are south of Damascus and can invest a couple of hours with your family tomorrow – this project is for you. Every woman and child who comes to this house will be part of your Kingdom treasure. The couple of hours you invest will be the gift that just keeps giving and giving! Contact Bernie with any questions – thombb1@earthlink.net

If you are north of Damascus you could join us at the Basile home. The husband has MS and is unable to get around any more. The family is under a tremendous strain in every way imaginable. We can show up tomorrow, build a ramp from the garage to the house, put a fresh coat of paint on the walls, and help straighten the house up. We can love this family in Jesus name and give them hope again. You can contact Rusty with any questions – genesishomeimprovement@yahoo.com

See you tomorrow!
Paul

"The people of Haiti have urgent needs rights now," says David Dethmers, coordinator of Reformed Church World Service, "basic needs of water, food, and shelter. We make this contribution on behalf of the members and friends of the Reformed Church in America, confident that in the longer term we will be able to do much more." The initial support will be directed through the RCA's partner, Church World Service (CWS), which has staff permanently placed in Haiti and the Dominican Republic and therefore is able to mobilize quickly. In the early days of the response, CWS will be providing blankets, water, and hygiene and baby kits. In a conference call with CWS communions on Wednesday afternoon, Donna Derr, director of emergency response programs for CWS, highlighted the urgency of the need for donations to address the crisis in Haiti. "We are emptying our warehouse in Maryland," she emphasized. "We're intending to ship over 25,000 hygiene kits and several thousand baby kits. That's almost everything we've got. There's a desperate need to replenish our supplies. I urge churches and individuals who are seeking a way to help to put these kits together and ship them to us as soon as possible."

RCWS Partners with Christian Reformed World Relief Committee

On Friday, David Dethmers will travel to Haiti with a delegation from CRWRC, the relief and development arm of the Christian Reformed Church. "It's a sign of the growing relationship between our two communions," Dethmers says. "Within hours of hearing about the disaster, we were in communication with each other. Very quickly it became clear that it made sense to travel and work together."  In Haiti, Dethmers will meet with a wide variety of local partners of both Church World Service and CRWRC. He is also hoping to meet with the RCA's new partner in the Dominican Republic, the newly emerging Reformed Church in the Dominican Republic. The recovery in Haiti will be a long one. "The goal of the trip," he says, "in addition to encouraging and supporting RCA partners in Haiti and the Dominican Republic, is to listen to local partners, developing a mid- and long-range strategy that will support the Haitians as they plan and implement their own recovery and plan their future."

January 9th from 7:20 to 9:20 AM at Redeemer Lutheran Church.
A great morning of fellowship, food, worship and presentation by Jeff Williams entitled,
”Three Keys for Mind Blowing Sex In Marriage”

A PARABLE BY PAUL FOSS……….. a Waterboy

The day was a ‘nothing out of the ordinary day’! The preacher had a couple of appointments in the next town over. The youth intern had to oversee one of those crazy youth video’s that could quickly get out of hand if someone with a little sense wasn’t around. The businessman had several REALLY important sales calls to make. Timing was everything and if he wasn’t there early, Ralph his fierce competitor might get there first………. Ralph!!!…… he would say and do ANYTHING for the sale.

As the preacher was hurrying to his appointment something caught his attention just off the road. He had seen the vultures circling but thought it was just road kill.. as he got closer he saw……. he saw it was a man…. Someone had really messed him up! From the looks of it, it probably one of those homeless drunks from Hamden…… those guys were always lined up on the side of the road, looking for a hand out. One less beggar to be worried by, he thought……… I must be about the ‘business’ of the church. With that settled, he hurried on by, thinking of ways to convince the well off couple he was going to see to contribute to the church building campaign.

The intern had gotten a late start, those crazy youth!! Two kids had ‘face booked’ and played ‘mafia wars’ instead of doing their homework so their parents had put their foot down. Someone else would have to fill in on the video. A couple other kids suddenly needed a ride at the last minute…….. some things never change! The young man was racing to the meeting place when he noticed the mess by the side of the road. It looked like the guy laying there was in really bad shape. Really bad! In fact it looked like it was probably too late……………….

aanndd he was already REALLY late……… aanndd the guy looked like ‘one of those guys’ anyway. That’s why we pay our taxes he thought, God knows we pay enough….. right? If I’m not there when the kids get there, it will NOT be good! Plus it wouldn’t be cool if the video wasn’t ready for the service this weekend either!

Before the businessman left the hotel room he stopped and asked God into his day. I think his exact words were, “God if I don’t join in YOUR day then I can only expect ordinary…….. but with You today it could be an adventure. The kind of adventure that my kids will still be talking about years from now. So God, give me THAT kind of day.” With that he rushed out of his room and onto the next town. Maybe today… I’ll make the big sale and earn that manager position. Now THAT would be an adventure! As he glanced at his watch he saw that he was right on time.

Ralph would NOT be first today! Then he saw the guy………….. RATS!

Pause button!

Have you ever felt trapped in the ‘busy’ of life? Here we are at the beginning of 2010, would you like more ‘God interruptions’ this year than you had last year? Or would you rather just wait for the church Mission trip this summer? In Acts 1:8 we find the blueprint for being able to experience the pleasure of actually be able to participate in the glory of building Kingdom treasure right here in our home town! This verse tells us that we need to start at home. It tells us there is work to be done here first! When I was in Honduras last year I clearly heard God saying, “Paul, you are more potent for the Kingdom in Frederick than you are here!” As I thought about this, I knew He was right! I can tell you where to go for free medical help. Every other Monday, Mission of Mercy cares for over 100 folk who have no insurance. They care for young pregnant women who would have no prenatal care otherwise, they help the poor man with a throbbing toothache who has nowhere else to go. Can you imagine a toothache with no hope of relief?  I know where the lost and hurting addicts go when the only option left is a tent in the woods. They’ve learned where to go so they wouldn’t be hassled by the authorities. When I run into someone who has a felt need for God, I can invite them to ‘come and see about this Jesus’ here at Damascus Road. I can invite them into the fellowship of the Waterboyz or Girlz. When someone comes to me and tells me about a family where the dad has MS and the mom can’t drag him up the stairs for a shower anymore, I can with confidence tell them that a group of men love Jesus so much that we are compelled to not let that stand! January 16th we are going to help this family – do you want a piece of the action?

Here is the truth!!! If you don’t decide at the beginning of every day to offer your day to Him for just a minute……… one minute! Then you will race past the ‘God appointments’ into ordinary ……………….. and the immediate will crowd out the important!

God tells us that if we seek Him first then HE will take care of the rest. Do you believe it?  Several years ago God gave me this little 6+1 plan to reignite your relationship with Him. http://waterboyz.org/resources.html#6+1

OK – back to the story. What happened to the guy who was busted up and laying by the side of the road? What did the business man decide to do as he passed by? If you would like to know ‘the rest of the story’ take a look at Luke 10:25-37. It’s a pretty cool story! And you know what, to this very day………… decades later……. Actually centuries later…… millions of people have read the story and millions of people have decided to allow God to interrupt their days because of this story. Let’s hand THIS kind of legacy to our kids – what do you say?

LOOK OUT 2010 – HERE WE COME!

Be always at war with your vices, at peace with your neighbors, and let each New Year find you a better man. - Benjamin Franklin -
God became man to turn creatures into sons: not simply to produce better men of the old kind but to produce a new kind of man. - C.S. Lewis -
Behold, the former things have come to pass, and new things I declare; before they happen, I cause you to hear. Sing to Jehovah a new song; His praise from the end of the earth, you who go down to the sea, and its fullness; coasts and their peoples. Isa 42:9-10
Behold, I will do a new thing; now shall it spring forth; shall ye not know it? I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert. Isa 43:19

Enter this New Year with a great expectation of wonderful new things to come, full of God's goodness and fullness, favor and blessing, love and grace!

Brothers in Christ,

As we come to the end of the year my attention is turned to what I want to see happen in 2010 and, more importantly, what the Spirit wants from me in 2010. I pray that you are looking at Kingdom First goals for your life for 2010 as well. If you fail to set goals for yourself you are assured of reaching them every time.

My goals are simple this year and I ask that you hold me accountable.

For Me

  • To consistently have formal bible studies with my family
  • To improve the relationships with my wife and children
  • To hone my skills and become a better warrior for the Kingdom
  • To use the gift of connections to make a difference for the Kingdom as the Spirit directs.

For the Table – here is where I need your help

  • To become more consistent in sending out recaps
  • To more effectively encourage each man to call their man and memorize their verse
  • To consistently have 10 men meeting each week.
  • To train a competent leader so I can start a new table.

What are your goals?

In His hands,
Dave Kull

Good Morning Boyz,

A day late on sending the weekly update - wanted to sit back and enjoy the celebration of our Savior’s birth!  I pray all of you did just that as well.  May we truly remember this indescribable gift and how much HE loves you!

In His Name,
Doug McFee

From Justin Frazier: Paul, I went and saw Justin Chaney last night who is detained at the Central Laundry Prison system. This is the same prison that Dale was at for some time. He informed me that the first Waterboyz for Jesus table was a huge success at the prison last Friday at 8:00. There was 12 men at the table. Wow God is awesome. The men loved the format of the table, and the SOAP concept. He shared that all the men said they would be back again next week. Central Laundry is a transitional prison the men who are there will only be there for short period of time. They will either be released home or to another prison. I had not thought about this until Justin shared his vision with me. The Waterboyz could be in a lot more than just this one prison that he saw God putting many Waterboyz tables in many prisons as men are transferred to other prisons in the Maryland system. God is working and using these ordinary men, and making them MIGHTY WARRIORS who are aggressively advancing the kingdom of God.  It brought tears to my eyes thinking about how these men are locked up behind bars with a lot of freedoms taken, but though God they are free and have a fire burning in them to serve God. What an awesome God we serve. Merry Christmas

After this praise we also see this: Just got a letter from Josh……. After the 10MAN table the guards came in and tossed his bunk area. This almost never happens unless the inmate has been in some trouble or caused some trouble. Josh saw it for what it was – an attack of the enemy. Central Laundry is a place of much transition – inmates come and go all the time – even more than most prisons. Josh sees this as the perfect place to sow 10MAN Table seeds into the Maryland prison system and beyond. We have setup a system of getting the weekly updates, memory verses, and bibles into Central Laundry. Pray that God will tear down these prison walls and move prisoners into perfect freedom……… freedom in Jesus!!!

Dear Boyz,

Tomorrow morning we are planning to show up at Monocacy Valley Church at 9am, drink some coffee, eat some donuts, sings a couple of Christmas songs, pick up the food boxes with a ham or turkey, pile into cars/trucks and bring some Christmas joy to 30 families who are hurting and battling fear for the future. Our job is to allow the love God has planted in us through Jesus, to overflow into our families in a way that will change things. This morning Demonte Fowlkes was sharing a story about a friend of his who lives in North Carolina. This friend is way behind in her bills, suffering significant health problems, not at all sure about who God is, and feeling desperate and alone. Demonte sent her a card telling her about how much Jesus loves her and with the letter he sent a $10 bill. In his note he said, “I’m sending you $10, but you need to understand that this isn’t any ordinary $10, it is a $10 blessed by my God who can make anything out of nothing.” Think about this…………………..   It ISN’T the size of the gift – it is the willingness to offer our ‘ordinary’ believing and knowing that God will turn it into ‘Supernatural”. What is God asking you to do? Don’t let your limitations stop you from obeying. JUST DO IT!!

SNOW PLAN FOR CHRISTMAS @ the MARGIN:

We don’t have one! I believe that what we are going to be doing tomorrow morning is in God’s will. We will be at Monocacy Valley Church tomorrow morning at 9am and we will deliver all the goodies to our families………… and then it will snow. Having said that, if you feel uncertain or uncomfortable for any reason – give me a call at 240 285-2650 tomorrow morning or my daughter Jodi at 240 285-2652 and we will help you develop a plan B for your family. We will have plenty of men bringing their 4 wheel drive vehicles so even if it means riding with them from the church and back that could work as well. So Christmas @ the Margins is on! Let it snow……… let it snow………….. let it snow (just after 10am on Saturday).

Earlier in the week I sent an email out about bringing Christmas to individuals left behind by men who are locked up. So far we have 6 of the 40 covered. If you would like a little piece of this it is $20 each……… or you could take advantage of the ‘room makeover’ from Rusty and make all of it happen (he is a real craftsman!). Enough said……………….

God has been making it increasingly clear that 2010 will be a year about mentoring men coming out of addiction and/or prison. We all had a piece of the “Dale miracle’ earlier this year. I just received a letter from Dale and have attached it with this email. Dale has a place to live – thanks to the Waterboyz; a car to drive – thanks to the Waterboyz; a job – thanks to the Waterboyz; a strong fellowship – thanks to the Waterboyz. I believe that God has shown us a model of how we can experience the joy of partnering with Him to help men who have been given up on, or forgotten by society. When I say “thanks to the Waterboyz” what I really mean is that God is changing us from ordinary men into mighty warriors for the Kingdom. As mighty warriors we are doing what they would do…………. We are realizing more and more that all we have to do is be available. Each of us has a part of the God-adventure and increasingly we are stepping up to seize our part. We are seeing increasingly that God is faithful and that finding where He is at work and joining Him produces EPIC stories. So God all we can say is “DO IT AGAIN!”

Here is another note about a man who is just out of jail.

Hi Sid/Doug,  Keith Spriggs was released  about 10 days ago and is living in Hagerstown,  I have been communicating with him and got him set up with group of men from Waterboyz that meets every Monday night!  He really seemed to enjoy the first meeting I attended with him Last Monday.  Hope to visit with him again on Friday evening and help with a little Christmas shopping.  He will also be attending Pastor Tom Klappart's Church this Sunday.  God is so amazing!  Blessings, Tom

So God IS doing it again. My prayer for 2010 is that what has started as a trickle will turn into a flood!

In Him,
Paul

More from the Christmas tree Deliveries:

MY STORY IS NOWHERE NEAR DEMONTE’S WONDERFUL ONE BUT IT WAS A GREAT WAY TO START THE 12 DAYS OF CHRISTMAS! MY FAMILY WAS IN A SMALL HOME WITH A PORCH STREWN WITH THINGS AND I WAS MET WITH ENTHUSIASUM BY A FAMILY MEMBER WHO SAID THEY WERE EXPECTING THE WATERBOYZ TO SHOW UP! THEY HAD 4 YOUNG GIRLS AND WITH THE TREE STAND I HAD ALREADY SET-UP , A STRING OF LIGHTS I HAD , TREE ORNAMENTS SUPPLIED BY JILL AND A LIGHTED DOOR WREATH GIVEN BY A FRIEND I'M SURE IT WILL LOOK GREAT. WHAT MADE IT FEEL GREATER YET WAS THAT DOTTIE AND I HAVEN'T PUT UP A TREE IN 15 YEARS BECAUSE WE GO OUT EVERY YEAR TO IDAHO TO CELEBRATE WITH OUR CHILDREN AND GRANDCHILDREN SO THIS BROUGHT BACK THE FUN OF GETTING READY FOR CHRISTMAS BY  GOING OUT TO CUT YOUR OWN TREE EVEN IF FOR SOMEONE ELSE!   TONY DIBIASE

We received one of these trees this weekend and we are so appreciated!!!! Thank you so much. We wouldn’t have been able to get one otherwise. Thank you and Merry Christmas.

Dear Boyz,

Tomorrow morning we have a chance to create a Christmas memory with our families! Butler’s Orchard has offered 27-30 Christmas trees for free to bless families who are going through a tough stretch and wouldn’t be able to have a tree otherwise. If you can carve out an hour – join us a 10AM at Butler’s Orchard (on Brink Road just off Rte. 27 near Germantown). You and your family can go out and find a tree, cut it down, get a map quest set of directions, and deliver the tree to a worthy family.

If you can make it – let me know – info@waterboyz.org

Here are some things you could bring with you:

  1. Any extra Christmas tree stands you might have
  2. If you go to a Wal Mart; Home Depot; or Lowes today ask the manager if he/she would be willing to donate a box of ornaments for worthy families who are receiving a free Christmas tree tomorrow (Eric Closs did this yesterday and the Home Depot he was at, gave him a couple of boxes of ornaments). If we all did this all the trees would look awesome.
  3. If you find an extra string of lights or can get to Ollie’s or somewhere else, buy one box of ornaments or one string of lights that would be cool.
  4. Prepare your hearts to offer Love to a hurting family tomorrow along with your family

The leadership of the Waterboyz will be having a 10MAN Table leadership meeting tomorrow morning from 7:30-9:15am at the Bob Evan’s in Germantown. If you would like to come with your family at 9AM for breakfast before we all head to Butler’s Orchard (just a mile away) that would be great fun. If not the Waterboyz leadership will meet you at Butler’s Orchard at 10am. I can’t wait!!!

Either Christmas is about getting and giving presents that we mostly don’t need and maybe don’t even want or it is about something more. Here is a story about last Christmas at the home of one of the Waterboyz. Read this, it so perfectly describes the spirit of tomorrow. Who knows, maybe you might even want to start the tradition of the ‘LAST PRESENT” at your house!

A week before Christmas, Our oldest daughter placed a package under the tree. It was from her to the rest of the family and it was the largest box under the tree. On the box was a note that said "OPEN LAST". None of us could figure out what it was, and she was as cool as a cucumber and did not give us any clues whatsoever. Christmas Morning arrived, and we opened the packages in this order: gifts from relatives, gifts from each other, gifts from Santa (oh yes, Santa still visits the Eades family!), and finally, the large box from our daughter to us. Our youngest daughter was so excited to open it even though she had opened many presents before this one. So we all gathered around our youngest as she had the honor of opening the box. In it, was a lot of tissue paper, and a letter. Written below was the contents of the letter. We read it out loud and ended our gift opening with a big family hug!! See the letter below:

Dear Mom, Dad, and Sierra,

The gift you're about to open is the greatest give you'll ever have. It's bigger than this house, as complex as the human mind, and sits just below the power of God. By now, I hope you've realized that this is no ordinary gift... and it doesn't fit in this box. No, this is more, this is better.

First, look to your left, then to your right. Look above you, and below your very feet (or butt, if you're sitting). Look at the pile of gifts you've already received. Look at the person sitting next to you. Get it now? This is not a material gift. This is an attempt to re-create the size, strength, power, and excitement of the "real" gift. It is a figurative realization of the blessings we already have... our home, family, friends, pets, money for food, and the fact that we're all sitting here together. On and on the list goes.

So why look inside the box when you could look right in front of you? No matter what angle you're at, there is always something to be thankful for right in front of you. Even in times of struggling. This gift is the power of Love, and you already have it!! Merry Christmas!

Love,
Savannah

Again, my daughter nailed it! Being together, surrounded by family members who love each other, who would do anything for each other, at any time, is something we should never forget. And doesn't it seem that we forget this so often? Especially when we are stressed from work or life, or when something doesn't work out for us, and especially when we focus on the negative, worst-case scenarios... we tend to lose track of what's important. Sometimes, it takes a serious health issue to remind us of what's important. Sometimes, it takes God to reach down and thump you in the head and give you a wake-up call. And sometime, it just takes a 13-year old girl with a big heart and the right priorities!

Dear Boyz,

Last year the Waterboyz for Jesus adopted 25 families for Christmas. This year in the first 4 days we have already adopted 18 families with another 12 families to go to reach our goal of 30 families. How cool is that? Several 10MAN Tables have already adopted a family, has yours? If not talk with your table leader and join us in experiencing the joy of following God’s heart to the margins. If you can’t adopt an entire family you could ask for a few members of a family. We could spread some of the larger families around and everyone would get a chance to join in the God-adventure. You can figure on spending between $50-$75 per person as you determine the right number of individuals to ask for. The Frederick Rescue Mission has agreed to partner with us by providing a food box for each of the families, and the Waterboyz will be purchasing a turkey for each family as well. I can’t wait for the 19th of December to deliver these goodies and know from past years experience there will be many God stories. Don’t miss this chance to really experience the ‘great joy’ the angels were talking about in Luke 2:10 – join us!

Just one quick story about what God has already done………  Denese Gold is a client and long time friend of mine. She has supported past Waterboyz serving projects in many different ways and contacted me again this year and asked when the list of families for adoption was going to be published. I sent her the list and she immediately asked for one of the families where the Grandmother is taking care of her grandson. She told me that when she was 9 months old her grandma drove 10 hours to come and get her because she was in a dangerous situation with her immediate family. She also told me that her husband had found himself in a really tough situation and his grandmother had kept in constant contact with him and really was crucial to helping him through that situation. So Denese and Andy adopted that family. Denese called them last night and as they talked Denese and Andy both fell this deep connection to the family and are excited about delivering Christmas on the 19th. Both families are seeing God more clearly and experiencing the rush of being loved and loving.

Here is one more opportunity to engage in experiencing a Christmas that would do justice to Jesus’ birth. On December 12th we are going to Butler’s Orchard to cut down 27-30 Christmas trees (they are donating the trees), and then deliver them to families in the area. All you have to do is show up at 9am with your family, use a saw Butler’s provides, cut down a tree, get a map quest map, and deliver the tree. We will help you know what to do when you get to your family. You and your family will build a lifetime memory and all it will cost you is an hour or two. If you want to have a piece of this please let me know paulfoss777@comcast.net. We will be sending out a reminder next Wednesday or Thursday but please don’t let this opportunity get past you.

One last thing…. A few weeks ago Pastor Ray from Redeemer-Lutheran gave me a book titled – Church @ Community. The underlying question this book addresses is this – “If the church you attend were to close its doors, would the surrounding community miss you?” – “Would the community be ‘less’ because your church no longer exists?” If the answer to these questions is “NO” – should the church continue to exist? What this book is really trying to get us to think about, is our role as salt & light in the community. The author of this book is going to be speaking at the Monday night men’s meeting at Redeemer Lutheran church in Damascus from 7:30-9pm and I can whole-heartedly recommend making this a priority! A meal of roast chicken and hearty and hot dishes will be served starting at 6:30pm. At 7:30 some men from the Waterboyz will set up Ed Delph’s talk by sharing the vision that God has given us for serving at the margins. Let’s eat together, pray together, cast vision together, and make ourselves available for God to spur us onto acts of service prepared in advance for us to do. I  really hope to see you there!

In HIM,
Paul

A prayer offered at a table last week and its blessing:

This morning I got up yearning for a dose of God.  I could get it alone by reading and praying by myself, but I decided to make the trek to the Tuesday morning table in Germantown.  It didn't disappoint.  Not only did God show up through His living and active Word as we SOAP’d Luke 1:1-25, HE SHOWED UP TO ME THROUGH A SIMPLE, BRIEF, AND HEARTFELT PRAYER OFFERED BY A BROTHER.  Here it is:

Father, let me hear and trust You when You speak to me. Help me to stand courageously and step out of my comfort zone

I am available for whatever Your purpose is for me. Amen.   Jon Brunnelson

Why did this mean so much to me?  Because it gets to the point that God wants us to be; a desire to hear Him and to trust him and to do whatever He asks from us.  Great prayers by great men of God don’t have to be lengthy or full of five-dollar words.  Jon’s simple declaration of desire to be wholeheartedly about what God wants him to be about and his willingness to go and do whatever His Master asks is the crux of Christ-following.   Jon, thanks….Anonymous.

Dear Boyz,

For those of you who went to the ADVANCE (160+ strong) we would love to get your feedback while it is still fresh in your minds. Would you be willing to fill out the following short survey? If you could give us a few strengths, some honest weaknesses, what opportunities you see that we ought to be leveraging for the Kingdom, and what you see as possible threats to the ground that was taken. Thank you in advance for investing some time for everyone’s long-term benefit.

SWOT analysis
a. S – Strengths of the retreat
b. W – Weaknesses, things that could be improved if same format to be done again
c. O – Opportunities that have arisen out of the momentum gained
d. T – threats to momentum and victories

If you are still looking for a job and would like us to fast with you next Wednesday, please send me a REPLY to this email. We are developing some partnerships with other faith-based job networking resources but we continue to believe that praying and fasting are the two best strategies for you getting work.

Tomorrow is the IRON SHARPENS IRON conference at Cedar Brook Community Church in Clarksburg. If you would like to join the Waterboyz group that is going please REPLY to mcfeejr@comcast.net for tickets ($39/ea).

If any of you have a PC in good working order (a Pentium 4 or newer) please let me know. There are many requests in this area.

Make the 10MAN tables a priority and invite a friend.

Paul

Dear Boyz,

In a few hours over 150 of you will be heading to Sky Croft for the 3rd Annual Waterboyz ADVANCE. If you have been to previous ADVANCE’S you already know that God is going to show up in the mostly unlikely ways, so stay alert – don’t miss it. If this is your first ADVANCE you are probably a little apprehensive…. maybe even afraid! Be courageous – push past these feelings you won’t be sorry. Please join the leadership of the Waterboyz in praying that God will pour out the blessing He has prepared for each of us. We want ALL of it!!!

We have been asked for 58 scholarships this year – and have already had 43 sponsorships offered. We all knew from the start that this year we would have an all time high in requests and we also knew beyond a shadow of a doubt that God would provide! We are SO excited that this is in the process of happening!

We are headed to the mountaintop! See you there.

Paul

Dear Boyz,

Tomorrow some of us are going to Eileen’s house and with our families. We are going to love her to a place she might be willing to want to get well. Are you in? We will be there from 8am-1pm with plenty of inside and outside work to be done. If you need an address, check the email I sent out earlier in the week or reply to paulfoss777@comcast.net with any questions.

This coming Monday – October 26th – is the cut off date for signing up for the ADVANCE. If you haven’t signed up do it right now. We have at least 94 beds so if you have signed up already you can bring either a sleeping bag or a sheet and blanket. This ADVANCE has been planned, prayed over, and placed before God – it will be a life-changing 23 hours! Earlier today I sent an email written to your wife from mine. Make sure you give it to your wife – Jeannie felt a really urging to send this, so it is for someone!

The Stakes are high in life! If we don’t decide, the drift will be toward ordinary. Let’s choose to engage!

Paul

Brian Detzel shares below-please consider coming out to Rock the Mission:

Paul,

A long time ago, when we first put together our band, we had a clear focus of leading individuals to Christ. We wanted to do so in a way that allowed us to reach out to those who might not make it within the 4 walls of a church. We love to play for church worship services, but also play other more secular venues for just this purpose. This is easier said than done, but we have been able to gather a good mix of Christian rock songs along with contemporary rock songs that have a positive message. It has been wonderful to see the individuals who know Christ, hear or invite us to be part of their event...knowing full well that we will be sharing a message of the Christ's teaching throughout our sets.

Recently, we were invited to play for a corporate party for a couple hundred people. On this particular night it rained and rained and rained. Because of this, we went with a bare-bones setup of our gear and had only a PA for vocals. During one of the set breaks, some of the folks listening there commented on how it was nice to be able to fully hear and understand the lyrics to our songs (many of these songs are simply great Christian rock songs that most folks would not recognize).

After we were finished, I sat around the fire pit with a number of folks who had been listening. I ended up speaking to a young man (22) who has fallen away from the church and Christ. He shared with me how the words and music we shared touched him and he was impressed that knowing Christ could be "cool". It had been many years since he had last attended church. He shared that he now plans on going back to church because of the simple message God carried through us that night...despite the rain...despite the cold...despite the lack of all our gear...the music sounded great to him and the Holy Spirit touched him. Praise the Lord!

I saw him again last week and asked how things were going. He shared that he had reached out to his local minister who had led him to Christ and was gaining additional guidance from him. We also discussed his possible involvement in Campus Crusades for Christ at his college. I continue to follow-up...We will continue to fight for the smallest of small victories for the Kingdom of God!

In Christ, Brian.

A request from Dale Parkhurst – a time of prayer:

Hi Paul - I was in prayer this morning and God placed an idea in my heart and I wanted to run it by you. As I listened the men at the table, I knew why God placed the idea of a prayer night on my heart. I know - as we all do - that there are a lot prayer needs and having discussed this with Bryan and Demonte and with Tim and Don Freitag, I am fully persuaded that this is of God. Would you post something on the Waterboyz website or the e-mail you send out that I'd like to begin a PRAYER NIGHT here at our place, 6921-A Bowers Road, either Wednesday or Thursday evenings. It would just be a time for nothing but prayer - fervent prayers at 7:00 p.m. or at a time that is best for all. I love to pray and I don't do anywhere near enough time in prayer even though I am up every morning at 3:30 a.m. to pray and meditate. This would be a time for corporate prayer, partner prayer, group prayer, the laying on of hands, anointing with oil, etc. Whatever God has us do. Thank you. Also, I was asked by Joshua Frazier to send a hello to you and that he loves you and is looking forward to seeing you Tuesday night. God bless and thank you, Paul. Dale Parkhurst.

This is a thank you note from Fere for helping with her move earlier this month. Blessings, Jill Ochs:

On Saturday October 10th a miracle happened. The doorbell rang, and I opened my door, and many people came in to help my family move our belongings to our new home. I didn't know many of these people, but in just a few hours we were in our new house in Clarksburg. I really appreciate everyone that helped us. I don't know what we would have done without you all. Thank you! Feremusu Jalloh (and Kadija and Mariama too)

Dear Boyz,

This week I had three young men ask me if it would be OK if they asked their dad’s go come with them to the ADVANCE. All three of these young men are pushing hard after becoming men of God without a strong Christian Dad to help them figure it out. Many of you have asked me what age their sons would have to be to come. My answer is that it isn’t an age it is a maturity. You know your sons better than I do. Pray about it………talk to your wife……….. and then obey.

Today we need to give Skycroft a final count for how many men are coming to the ADVANCE. Many of you have already registered and many have told me you are planning to go but haven’t registered yet. If there is any way you could possibly get that done today it would really help us with our planning. We are going to take a step of faith and give our final count based on a ‘faith-step’ rather than cut off registration today. As more and more of the pieces fall into place for this ADVANCE I am increasingly certain this is going to be a significant event in the lives of those men (with their sons) who attend. The only thing standing in your way is busy! Not Money – scholarships are available. Not Transportation – we will pick you up and drive you there. Not life experience, religious performance, NOTHING! Don’t allow schedules, sports events, or busy to steal this God-Adventure from you. All those other things will happen and in the long-view you not being there won’t matter. You will come off the mountain seeing God more clearly and having more to give your wife, kids, and community. In other words those who matter most to you will be glad you made this a priority. I speak from experience………so take the plug!

Remember – the Baltimore Block party scheduled for October 17th has been cancelled due to the city turning down our permit request. Also see if you and your family can come and love Eileen for an hour or so on October 24th. It will be a great way to start preparing your hearts for the ADVANCE.

In HIM,
Paul

Dave Berg Sends the following thank you about his surgical experience this past Monday:

I have spent 3 days trying to think of just how to say Thank You to so many people. First off Paul Foss who came an picked me up 5:30 in the morning and took me to the Hospital. Don Freitag who was sitting there waiting for us, This was a real surprise to see Don's smiling face sittingin a chair there, I had no idea he was going to be there. After the registration process I was taken back into a room for pre-op -- There I was anointed by Paul Foss and Paul, Don and Kathy prayed over me. Kathy stayed with me the whole time, I had trouble coming out of the anesthesia, 1 1/2 hours over what they said. Paul came an brought me home even though I don't remember the ride or how I got in the house an into bed. I woke up 22 hours later, Kathy had told me about 3 dozen guys have called an all said they were with the Waterboyz and were praying for me, Since then about a dozen or more phone calls and a couple cards have come. I'm not use to people caring for me and doing for me, Kathy has waited on me hand and foot, cooking, cleaning my wound, fixing the bed, helping me to stand, helping me walk, making sure I take all my meds an at the right time, an the pee in bottle thing,,, All I can do is say thank You very much, Larry Goldman, Frank Guzman and Paul Henning have called a few times and Don Freitag calls every day,, I never had anyone do this for me before, I am overwhelmed by all the love and support I have with you guys. Bryan Chaney called while on an airplane heading to the West Coast. I love you guys,,,, THANK YOU

Dear Boyz,

The Waterboyz ADVANCE Planning team has meet on three different occasions to pray, plan, & prepare for the 3rd annual ADVANCE (because Waterboyz don’t RETREAT). We are certain that God has BIG plans for this ADVANCE! It will last for 23 hours starting at 3:30pm on Oct 30th. This year the ADVANCE will be held at Sky Croft Conference Center http://www.skycroft.org/skycroft_home_page.htm located just outside Middletown, Maryland.

The theme this year is “The Fellowship will protect you!”. Last Friday night in Mt Airy a man shot his dog, kids, wife, and then himself. This man was a believer who went to church, told his neighbors about his faith, was a good dad, and then one day he just snapped. What kind of pressure drove him to this desperation? Wasn’t there someone he could sit down with and just spill his guts about the giants in his life? What about you? Given the meltdown in the economy, loss of jobs, marriages that have gone from bad to worse, kids making bad decisions………….. what are your giants?

The Waterboyz are all about “TOGETHER”. We ARE our brothers keeper! Together we will go places we won’t go alone. Will you make this a priority? I can guarantee you there are dozens of things that will be competing for this date. Probably many of them are really good things. I’ve learned that good is the enemy of great! I have learned that any time I make room for God……… He shows up!

The cost of the ADVANCE is $75 but if this stands in the way of you being able to come – let us know and a scholarship will be made available. If you are doing OK financially and want to make a donation to the scholarship fund that would be cool! Your 10MAN Table leader can help you register or you can go to our web page and register online http://waterboyz.org/the_advance_2008/advance_reg_form.html I hope to see you there! It is going to be OFF-THE-HOOK!

P.S. Don't forget to take a look at October's Pipeline.

Dear Boyz,

Next Tuesday Dale gets out of jail after being incarcerated for 30 years. His family has washed their hands of him, whatever friends he had got him there in the first place, so what I’m saying is that NO ONE will be waiting for him when he walks out past the guards next week. During the last 30 years he has earned two degrees, experienced a radical conversation to becoming a Jesus-follower, and for the last several years has been the pastor to dozens of prisoners. Jesus calls us to visit those in prison. What about caring for those who finally earn their freedom? Pray that we will see a God-story develop over the next 5 days. Pray that wherever God leads, simply by being available and willing the church will BE the church.

On Oct 30th at 3pm our 3rd annual ADVANCE will begin. Each year has been worth the day we invested and while the format will be pretty different this year I am sure that the God-principle of ‘the best is yet to come’ will play out again this year. In other words, I think this will be the best ADVANCE so far! The theme for this year is “The Fellowship will protect you”. The cost for this will be $75 per man, but our commitment to you is that no man will miss this because of finances. If you need a scholarship then just ask – the answer is YES. If you want to register do that with your table leader (please make checks payable to the Waterboyz for Jesus and note  “Advance” in the memo field of the check.)or via online at www.waterboyz.org. The ADVANCE planning team met this past week and it was OFF-THE-HOOK! There is still work to be done and we are all eager to continue the process. I can’t wait to experience this God-adventure with each one of you so register TODAY. I went to Eric Closs’ table yesterday and every one of the men (there were seven of us) committed to attending………. What about your table?

Here are the goals that God has made clear to us for this year.

      • make deep connections with other men
      • take our masks off and know and be known
      • new primeval love for and from Jesus
      • everyone has information about next step of connection points
      • offer community building opportunities
      • get to know at least 1 man better
      • get to know a casual acquaintance at a new and deeper level
      • new connections that will survive past the 24 hour ADVANCE
      • vision for not allowing busy to crowd out relationships with other men and with Jesus

From our fast on Wednesday:

Paul, While fasting and praying today, I asked God if he would speak to me today through the Psalms and I opened my Bible to: Psalm 46:1 God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.  and concluded Psalm 46:10-11 "Be Still and Know that I am God: I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth." The Lord Almighty is with us: the God of Jacob is our fortress. I just want to pass this on to the others as an encouragement and a promise from God. Blessings, Jeff

Just heard from Frank Guzman who has been out of work for some time – he has accepted a position with Hilti corporation as a salesman – PRAISE GOD!!!

An opportunity to strengthen your marriage:

[TOP OF PAGE]

Dear Waterboyz,

“What if marriage is less about making you happy? What if it is more about making you Holy?”

This is the question that renowned Marriage author and speaker asks couples in his ministry that inspires and equips couples to improve their marriage God’s way.  His book, Sacred Marriage is the wedding gift that Jill and I have given to many couples.

Gary is coming to Church of the Redeemer in Gaithersburg this fall.  Waterboy Dave Kull attended part I with his wife last year and had this to say about it:

Last year my wife and I attended part 1 of Gary Thomas' conference entitled "Sacred Marriage' and we look forward with great anticipation to the upcoming part 2 of this conference. The two most memorable points was our relationship with God and a historical perspective of marriage. Gary showed that through history marriage was never about that romantic feeling that so many relationships die when it disappears. It is only in the past 250 years that this romantic feeling became a part of the marriage equation. Gary goes on to explore what God's reason for bring two people who are fundamentally different together into oneness and that it is not about romantic love. Instead we are united to one who "stubbles in many ways" (James 3:2) in order that we have the opportunity to mature in Christ and become more like Christ. Then he explained how we are all children of God and that if our spouse is a child of God it makes God our father-in-law and there will be a day when God asked me how we treated his daughter.

This two concepts alone would have been enough to make this a memorable and worthwhile conference but they were just the introduction. Gary went through the chronological stages of marriage and how, from a brain perspective it take many years for two to grow together to one. Most give up before reaching this point. His discussion of spiritual centered sexuality was moving as he discussed how pornography and our past relationships are major stumbling blocks to this intimacy. During this period several trees were lost to provide the tissues that was consumed as tears flowed freely.

Understand that my wife and I have committed the last two and a half years of our lives to improving our marriage God's way. This involves first and foremost a commitment to prayer and bible study in our home. We have spent that two and a half years in many of the marriage matters classes at Redeemer and attend three to five marriage conferences or other marriage related events each year. For Kathleen and I Gary Thomas was very impactful in a positive way. Kathleen and I are excited about the opportunity to participate in part two of Sacred Marriage.

Dear Boyz,

Yesterday I went with Jeff Bohraus to visit Ilene. If you drove by her house you would think the yard and house needed some attention, along with the bushes and trees needing trimmed, oh yeah, and the rain spouts were overflowing with debris, but you wouldn’t see an emergency! My friend and I went in and saw a tragedy of epic proportion. This lady has no hot water, black mold everywhere, only one bathroom sort of works, the smell of musty damp filled the place………..  Ilene is an alcoholic whose life is absolutely out of control. When her ex-husbands parents died, everything that was working in her life stopped. A few months ago she found her son dead, hanging from a rafter in the basement having committed suicide. Every so often she goes to the neighbor’s to get a shower. A kind neighbor brings a plate of food for her most every evening. She has no money for gas to heat the water, no job, no hope, no idea who Jesus is or why that would even matter. Jeff and I prayed with her. She trembled and wept as we prayed. I didn’t sleep well last night. What would Jesus do? What should we do?

Earlier this week three Waterboyz drove 8+ hours to rescue a young woman (19 years old) from an abusive relationship. We went down with a plan for how to get her out. An hour before it was GO time she called to say that her abusive boyfriend knew something was going on and had refused to leave the apartment. Plan B……………………   God worked it out. We got her out and back home with her family. It was so clear to me that if she didn’t have us and her parents she would be trapped with no way out.

Brothers, if not us then who? I am reminded of a song “Don’t tell them Jesus loves them until you love them too”. We will be known for our love – are you overflowing with God-love? Is Jesus filling you so full of love that you MUST let it splash out into a lost and dying world?

Paul

Dear Boyz,

When is the last time you had a God-Adventure? Here is how they usually start – you are already running behind, your mind is swirling with all the things you have to do and all the places you have to be, and then it happens……………  You hear God inviting you to join Him. Can you remember when that last happened? For a while I’ve wondered if some of us aren’t sort of resting on our laurels……. Maybe we really jumped in with the Lon Family EXTREME makeover, or went on a mission trip this summer, or……….  When was the last time you experienced those God-bumps?

Tomorrow morning Dave Berg needs some help setting up tents at an event that will be feeding the homeless of Frederick. I KNOW this will be a God-Adventure because Jesus told us it was in Matthew 25. If you can help please contact him at daveberg63@yahoo.com and tell him you are choosing to invest a couple of hours in the Kingdom. The following Saturday – September 26th in Hagerstown there is going to an event that will care for 6,000 people who live at the margins of society. This event is called the ‘Convoy of Hope’ - http://www.convoyofhope.org – this organization has already feed over 28 Million in Jesus’ name. Maybe this is the place Jesus would like to share with you. Don’t just race past these opportunities – pause in your busy life, close your eyes, ask God what His plan is for you, and then whatever it is – DO IT!  You won’t be sorry.

In HIM,
Paul

Dear Boyz,

Last night I went to the table at Roy Rogers in Frederick. Toward the end of the meeting Ray Barnes said “I have a victory to report.” He went on to say that he had invited his daughter’s boyfriend to the table. Do you have a victory to report? Is there someone you have in mind to invite to your table? If we simply go to the table without thinking about the empty chair at some point it WILL get stale. I visit a lot of tables and the difference between a table that has life and one that doesn’t is always whether the men are inviting their friends, coworkers, and others. Give it a try – the worse that can happen is they will say no.

Last Saturday we had 50-60 men come to the Family Funomenon to help out. During the event they made an announcement about our ministry. Thanks to Dave Berg they also hung our banner in a very prominent place. The Waterboyz did the heavy lifting in so many ways – THANK YOU!

One last thing – I received an email from a friend of mine yesterday admitting that he was losing the battle with pornography. He asked if I had any suggestions or ideas about what to do. Here is my answer – it helped me to write down my strategy – maybe it will help some of you.

I got a phrase in some meeting that I left early from,, that says “what we aren’t willing to talk about already owns us”. This no longer owns you – I am SO glad! James 5:16-17 says we “confess our sins, pray for each other, and we are healed.” In this particular battle I think it is present continuous verb... you will ‘be healed’ as a journey of dependence on Jesus.

Here is my strategy – of course that means I am also in the battle right?

  1. Put X3WATCH on my computer – it is a free download and it will send your accountability partner an email every few weeks with sites that are questionable and any time you might turn off the accountability program. I would be honored to be the accountability partner if you would like but choose someone.
  2. I practice looking at young women as my daughter (for you maybe sister) and older women as my mother – my paraphrase of scripture
  3. If I’m tired or hungry I won’t turn my laptop on if I’m alone – I’m not sure how but I often find myself going places that hurt myself
  4. I have a couple of guys who have promised to pray for me to live in victory
  5. I practice appreciating my wife (adding value to her by rehearsing who she is and what she means to me)
  6. In my mind I place the girl/women in the garden of Eden as Eve and remember what God says about who she is and what she is

If it sounds like I have some fail proof plan – it isn’t 100% - I’m a naturally really weak person so mostly I pray that God will become so real to me that I will care more about Him then I do about anything else. If this helps then that would make me a very happy man.

37% of the pastors in America fight this battle – to become mighty warriors we need to press in on this …….   Together.

Paul

Dear Boyz,

It has been a crazy-busy week! First week of school, parent meetings for Brittany’s field hockey team, forms to fill out in triplicate, preparations for the Frederick Family Funomenon, plans for next year’s 100MAN choir... the list goes on and on. All this frenzy of activity has left me thinking a lot about the legacy I’m handing to my family. As my kids grow up and think back on their dad, what will stick out in their minds? As they marry and have families of their own, what about the way I lived my life will influence them in theirs?

Do I want to hand them a legacy that tells them it is ‘all about them’? Do I want to work hard to provide everything their hearts desire – the latest video game, most current style, being part of every team as the seasons come and go? We have such a golden opportunity to model for our kids what seeking the Kingdom of God really looks like. When is the last time you made time to take your family past their own needs/wants/schedules and served with them at the margins? When is the last time you had worship with them at the beginning of the day? When is the last time they ‘caught’ you reading the bible?

When things get rough is your response to pray more?

Here is my challenge for you today! Take a ruthless look at your personal day timer and your families’ schedule. Do you see a man whose main priority is to order his life and his families’ life in such a way that when your family has grown they will have lots of Kingdom memories of times spent, adventures taken, and the awe of having seen God at work up close and personal in their dad’s life? Let’s make today really count! Let’s not let the immediate overwhelm the important. Let’s strap on our armor and go out into our lives day as mighty warriors in the Kingdom!

In HIM,
Paul

Still others, like seed sown among thorns, hear the word; but the worries of this life, the deceitfulness of wealth and the desires for other things come in and choke the word, making it unfruitful. Luke 4:18,19

Dear Boyz,

Over the last few days I’ve had this growing sense that this verse is a description of many of our lives. I’m not talking about the unbelieving world….. I’m talking about us, we who are making a claim to be a follower of Jesus. If we start our plans by figuring out what has to be done today to survive – work, kids practices, home duties, and whatever other ‘good’ things need to be done, God tells us we will end up being unfruitful. Our lives will feel busy, stressful, hurried, and ultimately we will have this deep sense that something REALLY important is missing. Please note in this verse that it is both worries and wealth, in other words it is the full spectrum of every one of our lives – the good, the bad, and the ugly...

Today Blake is going to DC to pickup Larry (a poor inner-city kid) and drive him several hours to a college in WV. Larry isn’t a believer, but he and his mom are blown away by a group of men who have invested in his life in such a tangible way. They both know it is because of what Jesus has done in each of these men’s lives. Wouldn’t you love to have a part of that story? Make getting with a circle of men a priority. This morning at a table Rick Bagdonas said, “When I leave here I always feel more refreshed and ready for the day then when I arrived.” Has the summer, vacations, the economy, or the busyness of life derailed you? I would love to invite you to come and get a drink of Living Water. You can see what 10MAN Table location best fits your schedule by going to www.waterboyz.org. See you there!

Dear Boyz,

On Saturday, at the Men’s Quarterly Breakfast, we shared the vision of the Waterboyz, how the organization is growing, and how the organization is being structured to meet these demands. One of the comments that really struck me was about Redeemer Lutheran Church in Damascus, one of the churches at which the 100 men choir sang. Not only have a few tables sprung up, but the pastor has been SOAP’ing with the congregation for past 3 weeks during the weekly services! If this wasn’t enough, I attended a Christian Business Men Connections (CBMC) meeting the following Tuesday morning. This is a group whose focus is being involved and reaching out to the business community (http://www.cbmc.com/about) through outreach, evangelism and discipleship. This was the 3rd meeting of this group of 9 men who meet every two weeks. What is cool is that they have adopted the SOAP and accountability (weekly call) aspects for their meetings. What a joy it was to see God speaking truth into these men’s lives. God is at work! Are you!

Dear Boyz,

Lots of things happening this week. In addition to the Quarterly Breakfast (tomorrow-which I hope you can make), there is an opportunity to help clear the debris from a family whose property was hit pretty hard in last week’s tornado (see below for details). The work overlaps a bit with the breakfast end, but as you are able, I am sure that whenever you arrive you could be of assistance.

I have forwarded some things to be updated on the web site, but they will be slightly delayed as our web master, Jimmy Golden, has just undergone some surgery and will be in the hospital until Monday. Please lift our brother Jimmy up in prayer for continued healing.

Attached to this week’s update is the August 2009 Pipeline. Please take a few minutes and read.

Dear Boyz,

Let us all continue to offer our prayers and support to Taysie Phillips as she now lives a life on this side of heaven without her husband Tom. We need to do what the Waterboyz says we do and “Bring Drinks of Living Water”. It is extremely important now that we be the arms of Jesus and bring His love. Let us not forget that in all we do, we are always His representatives as we walk this earth. We will hold on to the promise that is the foundation of all we believe, knowing know that Tom Phillips is present with the King!

John 14:1-4
1"Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God]; trust also in me. 2In my Father's house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you. 3And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. 4You know the way to the place where I am going."

May God’s Peace fill each and every one of you,

Doug McFee

Dear Boyz,

There is movement in the Kingdom as we saw that 3 more Waterboyz tables were launched this past week.  We also join in celebrating and offer prayer, praise and thanksgiving to Him in  victory as our brother Bryan Anastase received his chip in recognition for a year of sobriety.

Lastly, I received an email from a Boyz who was notified this week that his job of the past 24 years is no longer.  He writes the following and is seeking our prayers:

I want to tell you all that I have a tremendous sense of peace and I am excited to see what God wants to show me (even if there is also something He wants to correct).  Finding a new position, with a different firm has been a desire of my heart for the past 3 or 4 years now. My faith and trust are in HIM, and I am blessed beyond belief. I covet your prayers for myself, and my wife and daughter.

In His Name,

Doug McFee

Dear Boyz,

This is my last weekly update until after August 11th. The Waterboyz leadership team – “The Mighty Men” – have been meeting on several occasions both in anticipation of my month break and with a desire to as an ongoing commitment, live out Romans 12:8 (leading diligently). I am SO thankful to be part of this ministry and to be doing it with such an awesome group of men. I was in court (more on that later) this morning with a Waterboy and during a break he leaned over and said with tears in his eyes, “four years ago you asked me who my friends were. I said counting you – I only had one friend. Today I have dozens of men who call me regularly, look out for me, hold me accountable, and love me. Life is good!”

Doing life together, advancing the Kingdom together,  sharing our struggles and victories together……God IS mustering an army – this IS the adventure of a lifetime – We ARE on a mission – The Fellowship WILL protect us – The Victory in Jesus has ALREADY been won! This last four years has been the best years of my life……… and I KNOW that the best is yet to come!

As I mentioned I was in court today with one of the Boyz. Several months ago, 8-10 of us went to his trial, we testified that he was doing all the right things, telling the judge he had a vision for his future and a plan to get there. We assured the Judge that we would be his eyes and ears if this man went off track. Largely because of our testimony the judge extended mercy to this man and only gave him probation. Today was a simple status hearing – the judge just wanted to hear how he was doing. I stood up and told the judge this man was regular in his church attendance, was leading a 10MAN table, was always involved in our serving projects, and was in touch with me on a regular basis. When I finished the judge said, “Mr Foss, a few days ago I had a red file come across my deck about another case you were involved in. In the file was a letter from you to another judge telling him that a man had relapsed and was a danger to himself and the community at large.” Then he said, “Mr. Foss, your organization has earned a great deal of credibility in my courtroom and this court house.” Then he turned to the court room full of people and said, “For other young men listening today, Success is possible, you have heard about a resource today that will help you if you are willing to make changes in your life. I hope you were paying attention.” I walked out of the court room feeling about 10 feet tall! Accountability is an often used word in the religious world. In the Waterboyz it is a CRUCIAL part of our DNA! The weekly phone calls, the serving projects, and the impromptu calls we make to each other - we truly want to help each other become the men of God that we all want to become on our best day. We NEED each other!

Just a word about the other man in this story…..the one who relapsed in a ‘mushroom cloud’ sort of way. Yesterday morning, two Waterboyz who happen to be policemen, went to this brother’s apartment, at his request. Drove him to the hospital, read scripture with him, prayed with him, told him that they loved him, and made sure he could admitted to the detox ward. I can think of no greater testimony to our overriding desire to use godly discipline for the purpose of creating Kingdom space for restoration. The story isn’t over for this man! We still love him, we will still be there for him, and we believe that our God is big enough to make all things new in his life.

If you aren’t coming to a table – please make this a priority! If you are coming – invest in community, accountability, and service. We have invested a lot of time planning the August 8th Quarterly breakfast – make this a priority. Let’s seek the Kingdom as our first priority and trust that God will give us all the other things we need. And together I KNOW that the best is yet to come!

In HIM,

Paul

Dear Boyz,

Tom Phillips has been in bed pretty much ever since the 100MAN Waterboyz Choir finished singing on Fathers Day. This past Tuesday my wife came to me and said, “I think Tommy is waiting for you to bless him and tell him it is OK to let go.” I heard this as a ‘word’ so on Thursday I went out and prayed with Tommy. We cried, and laughed, and loved each other! He is still with us but I have a deep sense that the room Jesus is building for Tom (John 14:1-6) is just about ready. Keep him in your prayers.

On July 12th I am taking a month break. During this time I will be out of contact with both my home church and with the Waterboyz ministry. Dave Sefcik, Jay Jones, and Doug McFee are stepping up in many ways to make sure we don’t miss a beat. During my month break I will be having a family vacation, spending some time away with just my wife (I can’t wait!), and spending several days just listening for God’s plans for the next stretch of my life. I’ve never done something like this before and I have a deep sense something new and fresh is going to happen during this time.

If you have any ‘news & notes’ please send them to Doug McFee at mcfeejr@comcast.net.

Dear Boyz,

I received this email from the choir director of our 10MAN Waterboyz Choir. ENJOY!

Hi, Paul! As I've told a few people, the Men's Choir isn't really about singing. It's about learning to worship and praise God; it's about finding healing and support; it's about bonding and creating a moving force to push through life's obstacles. We sing (when we can't!) because it represents our silly helplessness in expressing back to a loving God what we feel toward Him.

If I could smile more, I would. If I could dance more, I would.   If I could use every cell of my body to express His praise, I would.

The guys always give their all. They aren't afraid to be vulnerable or cry (hey, what's that about in our real world??...it's the power of Christ). I love being in the house of the Lord with 100 men giving their all! It was a true honor to be the "one woman" in Victor's testimony. To see men released to praise, to see them released to love, makes all the 'stuff' of getting to the service time fade in comparison. Hey, it's a whole lot of yucky programming stuff to just get to the few hours when we're together praising God! I am so proud of the guys, and am so honored that they would even listen to me. Their love back is very real.

The difference in the men between the first service and the second was very real to me, standing in front of them. There were arms raised, there were smiles (yes), there was clapping at the same time they were singing (smiles!), there was crying, there was less stiffness. As each program happens, I think the flames of the Spirit will only burn hotter!

If you can only find 10 men who are willing to give their all, then you can more the world. What can we do with 100 men and one woman???!!!

Your friend in this Adventure,
Candy

Grace & Peace,
Paul

Dear Boyz,

Last night the 100MAN Choir (actually about 115 men) had our last practice together. If that was the last time we got together it would have been worth it. The Spirit of God was thick in the place! I saw men crying, filled with joy, standing in awe, and drinking deep from the water Jesus promised the women at the well. If you aren't in the choir but can come with your family to hear the choir we would love to see you. We are singing at Redeemer-Lutheran in Damascus this Sunday. They have two services - 8am & 11am.

The Waterboyz will be holding 15-20 10MEN tables between the two services as a way of introducing the Waterboyz ministry to the church. Doug McFee has worked hard to prepare this hour and has over a dozen R-L men ready to lead. Two new tables have formed expecting men to join as a result of this. Pray for us and that we would simply follow where God leads.

Grace & Peace,
Paul

Dear Waterboyz,

Our Mystery baby was Eric Closs – no one guessed it this week.

We will ready to start signing up willing (not necessarily able) men for the 2009 edition of the 100MAN Men’s choir. We are going to be singing at Monocacy Valley Church, Redeemer-Lutheran in Damascus, Centennial Methodist in Frederick, and Damascus Road in New Market this year. The theme of the year is “Moving forward” – we will be letting go of the past – and pressing on to seize the prize! If you haven’t participated in this God-adventure in the past ask a man who has. Then pray about it!

We have finally processed all the bills and donations for the Lon Family project. At this point in time we are about $2,500.00 short of covering all the expenses. If God speaks to you about helping us finish this God-adventure strong – let me know.

Have a God-Filled Day!

Paul

Dear Waterboyz, 3/27/2009

Our Mystery baby was Dave Berg – one guy guessed it correctly – Well done Terry! So who do we have this week? Please send me your baby picture so we can continue the fun. See photo

Over the last few months we have been given several cars, vans, and trucks. Danny’s Car Clinic in Frederick (located by the FSK Mall) has graciously donated dozens of hours of work to make the needed repairs to get the vehicles through inspection. Without their generosity we would not have been able to bless several families with a vehicle. Most recently we were able to give a van to a family with a very young daughter. This only happened because of Danny’s gift of time. I’ve known Danny for years and have found him to be an honest businessman, follower of Jesus, and a great mechanic. He has blessed the Waterboyz, so if you need any work done; it would be great to bless him!

On April 18th the Waterboyz for Jesus are sponsoring another ½ day marriage coaching seminar. Last month we had 23 couples attend with lots of great feedback as a result. A delicious breakfast and babysitting will be provided. The cost is $45/per couple with scholarships being available. No matter where you are in your marriage or engagement this ½ day investment will move you to an even better place! You can register online at our web site. First come – first serve.

If you are thinking about going on the mission trip to W.V. I need to hear from you now. Who is willing to take the point on this trip? We need to see if we have enough men to make this happen. Let me know – OK?

Have a God-Filled Day!

Paul

Guys,

The core group of the Thursday lunch table is working in Mt. Airy on Thursdays so we are moving the table to Starbucks in Mt. Airy starting 4/2. We have room for more members. I am announcing it today. That leaves the Bob Evans open for a new table at lunch.(Rob Carson is a potential leader for that table if we can get some attendees for him.)

Dear Boyz, 2/13/2009

Many of you know Bill Click – those of you who know him, love him – I love him as a son! As you know he has recently had a relapse. This relapse came from hidden sin, isolation, and bad choices. When this was happening I talked with him and told him it was going to be VERY hard for him to persist in his relapse, because those of us who loved him were not going to give up and go away. I told him we were praying for him and were going to keep coming after him. I want to thank so many of you for partnering with me in not giving up – you made calls, you prayed, you kept reaching out. Yesterday, Marty Weaver invited Bill to come to his Thursday night 10MEN table. Bill said he couldn’t come because he didn’t have gas money. Marty told him he would meet him at the gas station and put a few gallons in his tank for him. So Bill came. Here is the most recent email from Bill – it is an email to all of you who love him and have been praying for him to choose Life:

Thanx! I love you. I'm sorry I turned into a liar. The devil had me. He can't have me no more. My worst day sober was so much better than my best day high and I love the light. Bill

Here are a few reports from our fast:

Report #1: I talked with a man who decided to throw all his porn out as he started his first ever fast. He still has some videos so continue to pray for him.

Report #2: Praise God!!! The timing for this fast is perfect! Without knowing the Waterboyz had been called to fast, yesterday something was compelling me to begin a fast in the evening. So yesterday evening I begin, and this morning I read your emails. Truly inspirational, God Bless!!! Last year God healed me via a fast, now he will restore other aspects of my life via a fast. 1st and foremost my Marriage and my Son, Justin’s health!!! I am a believer in fasting!!! Paul I am a single father and have not been able to participate in Waterboyz projects, this is one (the fast) I am definitely in for. My marriage on paper ended almost a year ago - in one short year I lost my home and my wife, prior to that devastating health problems stemmed from Lyme disease accompanied by terrific headaches to the point that my vision was affected, I developed Bells Palsy (Paralysis of the face) and many other neurological problems. Praise God healing was done as a result of a Fast done last year! God’s powers are infinite, I had been on mega doses of antibiotics for 3 years with no relief from Lyme disease, yet in only 21 days of fasting the healing was definitely taking a great turn for the better!!!

Thank You / Praise God for Waterboyz --- Not to take anything away from Single Mothers / Widows, they do indeed deserve our attention, but in today’s Society there are so many men often in the very same situation, single fathers with kids. Thank You Paul, Gary

Report #3: Paul, as I have prayed about marriages and jobs today, this is what I have been hearing: You have lost your first love. You love many things and do many good activities, but just as I am jealous for the best of your love, time and energy, so do your wives. Just as I am not pleased with my Bride when she does many good things (as in Revelation 2), but forgets to put first and best energy into time with me, so likewise your brides require your first and best efforts and time. Marriages in the Washington area often come behind many other good activities, including Church work, professional work, hobbies, etc. Now, during economically tumultuous times it is tempting to scurry for provisions more than usual and to work harder and longer. But what I want from you in relationship with me is the same that will bring rewards in your own marriage and in the Kingdom as you build yourselves for others. Time invested in the priceless preciousness of relationship with me and in your marriages will produce fruit that money can't buy. I will honor and reward those that take proactive steps of faith to believe for healing; to believe for what can be, and who take the steps of faith to walk away from or lessen involvement in activities that require time and energy to the point that there is little left for their marriage. Those that take these steps of faith will experience a reward in their own marriage, and I will lift them up as an example to others about what I want marriage to be, and as examples of faith-walkers who will say no to what they can see and touch in exchange for more of what is more valuable. Jeff

Dear Boyz, 2/6/2009

This coming Wednesday (Feb 11th) we will be fasting for men whose marriages are in deep trouble and for men who don’t have a job. Many times these two go hand in hand. Please join me – God tells us that He will move when we take a step of obedience toward Him. Will you join me? Then on February 21st – our next Quarterly Men’s Breakfast we have a very special speaker – Jeff Williams – see a little more about him below – who will be talking on the subject of “How to Ruin your marriage” – you won’t want to miss this!

A Marriage to Die for: How to Get and Keep More Pleasure in Your Marriage

The bad news is that for many couples, marriage is their most difficult relationship. Despite good intentions and good hearts, contentment, peace and pleasure remain elusive. Happiness we once had or hope for has faded and we're not sure how to get it back or to sustain it. Once in awhile there's a flicker of hope, but life, kids, work and a multitude of pressures and energy drains make it feel impossible to have or keep the dream. The good news is that skills to build closeness, to prevent misunderstanding, to have difficult conversations that build rather than erode the relationship are much better than most people realize. The truth is that God has given understanding, skills and process for couples to enjoy abundant hope, pleasure and purpose. If you are intrigued by the possibility of getting more of what you want in your marriage this breakfast is for you because it isn't just going to be about what you should do. Rather, you will begin to be equipped with 'how' to do it.

Our speaker is Jeff Williams, Professional Christian Leadership and Life Coach, and Professional Clinical Counselor. Jeff has twenty years experience helping couples and families professionally and twenty-three years of marriage he is passionate about. Jeff relocated his family to the DC area in 2005 to coach community leaders in the development of Community Marriage Initiatives. Since that time God has orchestrated a path of learning for Jeff and Jill which has tested their own marriage and is now being expressed through a model for Coaching Couples that they are pioneering.  Jeff comes endorsed by a multitude of couples that Jill and he have served by equipping with concepts and skills to strengthen and heal their marriage and to help other couples in their marriages. They are also endorsed by national and international ministry leaders such as Christian Psychologist Gary R. Collins, Divorce Care for Kids founder Linda Ranson-Jacobs, and several national and international Christian Coaching pioneers and leaders.

Jeff and Jill's vision is every Christian Couple living with abundant hope, pleasure and purpose for the Kingdom of God. Their mission is to train and equip as many couples as possible, globally, to strengthen and heal their own marriages and to help other couples.  Jeff has written one book of devotionals that are very transparent about his and Jill's marriage and relationships in general. He has several other books in process, including Coaching for Couples: A Fresh and Effective Approach for Strengthening Your Marriage which will be released later this spring as a book/workbook combination.  A week in the life of the Williams is full of coaching appointments with couples locally, nationally and overseas. They also conduct classes to teach couples to apply relationship and coaching skills in their marriage and to help other couples.  You can reach them at: 301-515-1218 or info@graceandtruthrelationship.com, or Jeff.gtre@gmail.com

Dear Boyz, 1/18/2009

Today at 9am an advance team of workers will be arriving at the Lon Family residence. We will be preparing the work site for the invasion tomorrow. I’m a little nervous because from a human perspective much can go wrong. Having said that – God has moved in such PROFOUND ways this week that Bernie, Greg, and I know that we know that GOD is in CHARGE!  So the adventure begins!

The Lon Address is 1 Doxdam Ct – Germantown, MD 20876-4172 (it is very close to the Rt 27/Rt 355 intersection)

This past Wednesday dozens of you fasted and prayed with me for a) the Lon Project  b) jobs   c) marriages   - I know of at least one man who received a call from an ex-employer and was offered a job on Wednesday. Another man was worried his job was under attack and again on Wednesday a man walked into his office and told him the situation had been resolved satisfactorily – PRAISE GOD. A lady called me and told me that for several days she had been trying to get her credit card interest rate changed from 14.99% - On Wednesday she called again and this time got the right person and had it reduced to 5.99%. On Wednesday morning I sent an email saying we needed $6000 to completely fund the Lon Project and God opened the flood gates! Material, supplies, offers of help, a radio interview, and many donations were made – again PRAISE GOD!!

We MUST not forget that fasting is part of God’s plan to help us learn how dependent we are on Him and how eager He is to answer our fervent prayers. We WILL be doing this again soon.

Paul

Dear Boyz, 12/19/2008

2008 has been quite a year! During 2008 the men at the 10MEN tables gave over $25,000.00 in SCRAPS to advance the Kingdom oversees as well as right here in our back yard. We funded feeding hundreds of hungry Honduran kids, provided food for several hundred families at two multi-church Baltimore block parties, participated in the Big Sweep in Frederick, Helped an old lady in Frederick by cleaning up her yard and painting the outside of her house, Did a ROOM Extreme makeover for a single lady in Clarksburg, Spent a day with Tom (he is dying of cancer) and Taysie helping them clean up their yard, Did an extreme KITCHEN makeover for a single mom, Transformed the back yard of a single mom in Germantown, provided bibles for a graduating class at the Frederick Rescue Mission, launched several micro-businesses in India, funded a bathhouse for the Wycliffe Bible Translators in New Guinea, helped with a church build out in Easton Maryland, landed on TV when over 90 men, women and children showed up to do an extreme HOME makeover for widow Judy, provided Christmas at the margins for 20+ families in the Frederick area, and in our spare time did various other helping hand jobs. WELL DONE Boyz!! It is AMAZING what God can do when we give Him our excess, our SCRAPS!

Our tables have more than doubled in 2008 and the number of men who have gone from drifting in ordinary to intentionally becoming mighty warriors grows almost daily. I love the verse in Isaiah 13:4 – “Listen, a noise on the mountains, like that of a great multitude! Listen, an uproar among the kingdoms, like nations massing together! The Lord Almighty is mustering an army for war.” The battle God is calling each of us to is this throwing off of ‘tame’, and getting crazy – taking risks – plundering hell and populating heaven – it is our destiny. Here is a note I received from one of the wives in Easton just last week. This really captures the God-vision that burns hot in my soul

Hi Paul,
We have not had the privilege of meeting… yet. I’m Bob wife. Thank you so much for your obedience to Christ and the ministry you’ve brought into our church family. My husband wept during the guys’ testimonies. He is very excited about what God can do here in Easton through the Waterboyz. I have been praying for quite a while that God would give him a passion/purpose for His kingdom. I never knew it would be in a ministry that included handyman type work. He’s more of a musical theatre and three stooge’s kind of guy. LOL

I’ve been praying even longer that he and the men in our church would push past their fears and would be able to develop Godly accountable relationships. He was so excited about the accountability phone calls you guys make.  Sincerely,

I am sure that as good and meaningful as 2008 was, 2009 will be even better. I know this because there is a Kingdom principle called – “The ever getting better principle”. God is planning an eternity for each of us – and each moment in His plan is like the instant after you woke up Christmas morning as a kid. It is filled with wild expectation and promise…. And then we experience that next moment and it is even better then we imagined. Relish the thought! Jesus promised us that kind of ride in John 10:10 – the abundant life!

Dear Boyz, 12/12/2008

I just finished talking with one of the men from the Easton church we worked with on Saturday. He told me that the Waterboyz for Jesus were the only topic of conversation at their monthly men’s meeting this past Wednesday night.  He feels certain that a new 10MEN table will be starting somewhere in Easton soon. For those 20-25 Waterboyz who came and invested in this church – thank you SO much! There already has been Kingdom fruit. Here is a note from our main contact person in Easton – it made my heart sing!

To my family, friends & colleagues - A wonderful thing happened in Easton last week and I wanted to share it with you. As many of you know, our church (MidShore Community Church) is growing and moving into a new building. Our men’s group has been working in our spare time to build as much as we can, but most of us are not blessed with the skills needed to keep the project moving swiftly. We were graced last week with a men's ministry from the Frederick area called the Waterboyz. Many of their guys came down for 4-5 days and helped us get where we could not get on our own. They did this on their own dime and never asked for a thing in return. These are exceptional men with one purpose, to glorify and honor God. It was a truly humbling experience.

I wanted to share the pictures below with you. Some of you were involved in this weekend. Some of you have been involved in this entire project. Some of you have indirectly heard of our project and growth and have asked how things are going. Things are AWESOME as you can see in these pictures!

The first pictures are of Wades Point Inn who graciously gave us an unbelievable rate on some rooms with an incredible view. The next pictures are of the activities (including a men’s fellowship onsite) of the week. Finally, all of the guys down on Saturday, and all the helpers we had from our Church got together for some group pictures.

It is impossible for the Spirit to move you seeing these pictures unless you were there. But they have ignited our congregation and His Spirit in our lives. If you would like to know more about the Waterboyz and their ministry, please go to www.waterboyz.org. If you would like to know when we have finished our building so you can come enjoy His house with us, let me know. I would love that opportunity!

Please keep our congregation in your prayers as we finish up our project. May each and every one of you have a Merry Christmas and enjoy the time with your families. God Bless!!  Jay

We have at least half of the families adopted for ‘Christmas at the Margins’ – if you feel led to adopt one person, or one family – let me know and you will bring some Christmas cheer and you will be blessed – I guarantee it! Here is a note from one of the men whose table has adopted a family. It talks about the ‘payoff’ for looking outside urselves to others:

Also our table took on a family from the margins list, I was designated as the shopper for a 19 year old girl. It was a great feeling to do this for her, Jesus provided a great reward for my heart. I will not be able to be there on 12/20, to hand out the gifts, I have to work on Saturdays. Would you please let me know how it goes, I will greatly miss it!

In a few weeks we will be gathering for our 2nd Annual ADVANCE at Bishop Claggett center in Buckeystown. For 24 hours from 4pm on Friday until 4pm on Saturday you will be with 100 men who are pushing hard after God. Anytime we make time for God HE SHOWS UP! Will you? Take a look at the video on our web site - www.waterboyz.org and sign up today. Doug McFee is in the middle of putting together our 2007-2008 annual financial report. It will be more than just numbers, facts, and figures. It will be a HUGE 'YEAH GOD' because with our SCRAPS we have seriously advanced the Kingdom this year. Here is what I know for sure - we have done many great things for the Kingdom and our treasury is about empty. If you are impressed to make a special year end gift - that would be cool. If not - God will provide!

Dear Boyz,   4/25/2008

I just got back from a Children's ministry conference in Chicago. While there I learned a VERY disturbing statistic - "It takes two Christian families to produce ONE next generation Christian". That means that for every two families (four Christian parents) statistics tell us we are transferring Christianity to only one child. Net loss = 3 Christians! WHY? Does this freak you out? It should it did me! Here is the 'WHY' - we are not living out our beliefs in a way that causes our kids to see how a biblical world view actually works. So here is a 'pop quiz' - (you can find the final exam in Matthew 25 if you are interested.)

  1. Write down 5 daily discipleship practices you have in your home that you do as a family? (Deut 6)
  2. Write down 5 ways you are exercising your gifts in the Body you are connected to? (1 Cor 12)
  3. Write down 5 ways you have practiced 'pure religion' together as a family in the last 12 months (James 1:27)

If you are having trouble with this quiz and you are intending to train your kids up into becoming next generation Christians - you are in trouble! Our kids are watching us to see, more then they are listening to us tell. Waking
up each morning and dethroning self - and enthroning Jesus - Learning to pursue a personal relationship with Jesus using the 6+1 plan - getting to a table and being held accountable for becoming the man you really want to be - taking all this back into your family as the Spiritual leader of your home - and serving at the Margins - THAT will produce our next generation of overcoming Christians. YOUR CHOICE!  Will 'busy' win or will you seek first HIS Kingdom?

As for me and my family - "We will serve the Lord!" Who is with me?

Dear Boyz, 04/15/2008

As most of you know we are in the middle of mustering an army for battle. In the Old Testament God's receipt for a successful campaign was to put the choir out front with the army in the rear. The choir would sing, God would
fight the battle, the enemy would be routed and the army would advance to finish them off. So here is the deal, if you can sing - GREAT - come and join us. If you CAN'T sing - GREAT - come and join us! This is the sixth time we gathered the 100MAN Choir. If you haven't joined one - talk to one of the men at your 10MEN table who has - ask them what the experience was like - OK?

Last weekend Jon Davis and Greg Lueck took Carla Rose out for a Guatemala orphanage shopping trip. Because of the sacrifice each of you has made with your SCRAPS we were able to give this VERY worthy project $1000.00 to buy much need supplies. Here is here thank-you email:

I just want to thank you so much for all of your efforts on our behalf!  It was great to meet you and to be with your church family on Sunday -- what a great bunch!  I'm busy packing up the boxes to send....what a job!  Thanks to you we have lots to send along to Guatemala!  We will be in touch. Bless you!  Carla

This coming Wednesday I am going to fast for two reasons  1) Michael Betteridge (6AM Friday Morning table) has been called by God to purchase and launch a Christian Radio Station in the Thurmont/Frederick area. There are
giants in the land on this and I am going to fast for God to show Himself in this adventure.   2) All the men in need of work. WILL YOU JOIN ME?

Last night I was thinking about who God is and this is a phrase God spoke into me, "It doesn't matter who you are or what you've done!  It only matters whose you are (MINE) and what I did!" Live it out!!

Dear Boyz, 04/08/2008

There is SO much going on in all our lives isn't there? How in the world can we become world-changers when it seems like all we can do to just get our 'to do' list done each day before we fall into bed exhausted each night? The
ONE thing I know is Jesus tells us to 'Seek first His Kingdom!' My Tuesday morning table made a commitment this past week to 1) Study the Word every day for us (not so we can teach or tell our family what we learned - but for
US) 2) Call our man and ask accountability questions, remind each other to keep our commitment, and pray together 3) Memorize the memory verse. How about you? Are you ready to get serious about transformation? Your and your families lives depend on it!!

We are forming this years version of the 100MAN Waterboyz Choir. We will be singing in Middletown, Frederick, & Damascus on the weekends of June 6/7 & June 13/14. You will be hearing about this at church and at the tables.
Don't let what you can't do (sing) stop you!!

In Luke 2 we are told that Jesus is GLORY to His people and REVELATION to the unsaved. Glory and Revelation - as we seek hard after God's heart - let these two words soak into your soul.

At the beginning of 2008 we had 11 tables meeting. Currently, at least the ones we know about, there are 25 tables meeting including 3 in Kenya - 3 in Egypt - 1 in India - how cool is that? God's plan for 2008 is the have 100 10MEN Tables by the end of year - what is your part?

Dear Boyz, 03/18/2008

I just came from the new table at Perkins in Frederick. Nine men joined me in attending as Andy Higgins stepped into 10MEN Table leadership. I can already see that God has brought together men who will help each other become transformed in mighty warriors in the Kingdom together! Praise God!

A week ago Wednesday many of you joined me in fasting for Waterboyz who need jobs or Waterboyz whose marriages are in trouble. Rob is a police officer with Montgomery County and when he heard at the Tuesday table about the fast he decided to fast for the first time in his life. He entered something about fasting for men who need work on a Christian police blog. The next day at the gym a sergeant came up to him and asked him how the fast went. He replied that it was pretty hard and the sergeant said “Well I gave you guys 23 hours yesterday.” We have NO idea how choices we make affect those around us do we? Ron Tilkens came to the Tuesday table for the first time the day before the fast. He asked if we could put his name on the list of unemployed. Then he told us he was heading to a meeting with his realtor after the 10MEN Table meeting and if he didn’t sell his house soon it would result in a financial nightmare. I learned the beginning of this week that Thursday or Friday of last week Ron sold his house. “The fervent prayer (and fasting) of a (many) righteous man is powerful and effective!”

I told you last week about the new table that started in Damascus for young men ages 18-25. Here is an update from the 10MEN table leader Tim Honchel:

One of my best friends, if not my best friend, Jimmy, accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. He came to a few Waterboyz service projects last year, then came to Baltimore with the youth group and really started thinking. He began coming to the Fellowship of Christian Athletes at Glenelg, and I invited him to my 10 men table kickoff last Monday. After hearing what he said last week, I prayed and this weekend felt called to ask the big question. After the table ended tonight, I explained to him how the Old Testament showed how God delivered his people of Israel and foretold of the coming Messiah and how the New Testament showed how God sent his Son to fulfill those prophecies, highlighting John 3:16 and explaining the chasm; how our choice to sin set us apart, but how God still loved us and sent Christ to give us the opportunity to return to him. Jimmy said, "This sounds like a big decision, one that isn't just a one-time thing." I agreed and read Acts 8 to him, where Philip explains the gospel to the eunuch and baptizes him. I asked Jimmy if he wanted to do the same, and he said, "This sounds like something you can't just say, you have to mean it." I asked him if he wanted to live a life centered on God and His Son, and he said he wanted to, then prayed the sinner's prayer. God has answered so many of my prayers. 2 Thessalonians 1:11 says that "by his power, he may fulfill every good purpose of yours and every act prompted by your faith." Because I responded to a prompt of faith, my best friend is going to live for eternity. Praise God and be obedient to any faith-based prompts!

Finally, we are entering Holy Week. Starting on Sunday we can track events that took place day by day as Jesus set His face towards the cross. Would you join me in allowing God to fill this week full of the reality of what Jesus did for each of us? Here is a link that you can use as a resource http://damascus.com/resources/pdf_files/holy_week.pdf .  The Boyz have a tradition of stopping our busy lives on Friday at 3pm to remember together the cost of Salvation. If you would like to join me I’ll be at the cross on top of a hill in New Market at the corner of Rt. 144 and Bartholows Road at 2:30pm. Bring your family  and come with an open and soft heart. Try to arrive by 2:30pm but remember this is a solemn assembly – no talking, be quiet as you park and walk to the cross. We will leave by 3:15pm in the same way we came. A few minutes before 3pm we will open the Word and we will walk with Jesus to the cross. We will hear Christ’s final words before His death. We will mourn! Then we will leave with hope because Sunday’s coming!

God’s plan for 2008 is the have 100 10MEN Tables by the end of year – what is your part?

Dear Boyz, 03/01/2008

A new 10MEN Table started this past Tuesday at 11:30am in Columbia. Five men came and begin the process of getting to know each other by learning who they are in Jesus and where they are in their walk. GOOD STUFF!!  As the hour was unfolding the men noticed a man sitting at the next table starring at them non-stop. At the end of the time I walked over and invited him to join us. I explained a little about who we are and what was happening. I handed him the new brochure Jimmy Golden has developed for the Waterboyz and as we left he was pouring over it. Pray that he comes to the table next week. Who has God put in your life for you to invite to the table? With the vision of 100 tables by the end of 2008 – what is your part in making this happen? Don’t miss out on the pleasure of it, by allowing drift, hurry, and the pressing to overwhelm you.

A few weeks ago I told you all about Estelle (I said Stella but I got her name wrong) and her little infant daughter. She had met a man, they each made commitments to each other, she got pregnant and on the day she was giving birth to her daughter the man ran back to Baltimore, back to his addictions, leaving her alone. Boys will run but men will stand firm! When Gabe told me that Estelle’s roof was leaking and she had no means or idea how to fix it, I knew the Boyz HAD to do something! I told all of you the story and almost immediately donations began to pour in: Charlie who owns an electrical contracting business had sold a truck and sent the entire amount of the sale for the project. Several other men and their families sent funds. Dave Pennington talked with a contractor friend of his and as a result Larry Harold from the Roofing center donated 9 squares of 40yr shingles – what a gift! Wayne Parrish donated a couple sheets of plywood, and Jim Shield and David Berg agreed to do the job at a very reasonable price. This morning, Gabe, Jim, Dave, and I went to visit Estelle. I gave her a little history about the Waterboyz for Jesus, told her that she had given us a chance to practice some PURE RELIGION (helping the widows and orphans in Jesus’ name), and that there was a large circle of men who had chosen to stand in the gap for her. I then invited her to check God out, gave her a few options along those lines, and then we prayed over her. I prayed that God would help her to see her TRUE standing as a favored daughter of the King. Thank each and every one of you for doing your part. This was an awesome example of the Body of Christ BEING the Body! Check out the web page for some pictures.

This coming Wednesday I am calling for a day of fasting and praying. We are fasting for all the men who are underemployed or unemployed. Jesus told us some things only happen if we fast and pray. He tells us to ask, and He tells us that we don’t receive because we don’t ask. Will you join me in asking? I am expecting God to move ON WEDNESDAY – pray on Wednesday with a certainty that only comes from knowing who it is we are praying too.

Dear Boyz, 02/15/2008

This past week has been something! The memory verse this week has been to continue to do good deeds and in the proper time there will be a harvest if we don’t give up. On Sunday a brother came to me and told me about a couple who needed help moving – I gave up! Then my daughter told me about a lady in her neighborhood who has three kids and the father of the kids was non-stop beating her so she finally left. Jil asked for some help and I reached out to some brothers and got my daughter some information – I didn’t give up. This afternoon my daughter and her roommate are going into the house – cleaning it – and then they are going to stock the pantry with some food. Way to go Jil!

Then I took a huge personnel hit on Wednesday along the lines of do I trust God or don’t I – of course I have no choice – being a man of God I’m going to trust God – that’s it!

Then Gabe called and asked me if the Waterboyz would think about helping Stella. Her roof is leaking really bad and she has no money to fix it. Stella is a young single mom in recovery who got into a relationship with a man who was also in recovery. She got pregnant and on the very day she was giving birth to their son the man ran – relapsed – and has been running ever since. In fact Stella doesn’t know whether he is alive or dead. Jim Shields, Gabe and I went to take a look at the roof this morning and it needs to be replaced – shingles are missing, a few pieces of plywood are messed up – it isn’t good and will get worse. Jim Shields and Gabe can repair the roof – but here is the problem – the Waterboyz have no money in the bank. So I’m praying that if this is the ‘proper time’ for us to act on Stella’s behalf that God will show us how.

All in all an interesting week – right?

Then this morning 14 men showed up at the Friday morning table. Just as Michael Betteridge was talking about 1 Thessalonians 3:8 – and telling us that if we stand firm as men, others will join us – two men walked into the restaurant. Before I really knew what I was saying I blurted out “You guys are brothers aren’t you?” – (I thought I kind of recognized one of them from somewhere). They said, “What did you say?” So I repeated it again – “You guys are men of God aren’t you?” They said, “Yes we are – why do you ask?” I responded –“Because we are too”. They said, “God led us to this restaurant this morning and we were wondering why – now we know.” Boyz – there is a God – Tom & John joined us – John told us that he had lost his fiancé to cancer a few months ago and in the process of her dying he lost his job. Leading these two men to the table was God spoper time will produce a harvest. 16 men KNOW that we KNOW that God is up to something BIG! But even better than that – He is up to each of us individually – He is making Himself known. How cool is that?

So brothers – STAND FIRM – be SALT & LIGHT – pray about Stella – not a religious exercise – PRAY – is this the proper time? Is Stella ripe for a harvest? When the memory verse says to do good to ALL people does that include Stella?

Your Brother decreasing so He can increase!

Paul

Dear Boyz, 02/02/2008

Who are you inviting to the table? We don’t become mighty warriors in the Kingdom by ourselves – it is only through choices, many of them small choices that this ever happens. Your prayerful, courageous invite might be the difference between Life and death!

February 9th at 7:30am we are having the first Waterboyz breakfast at Monocacy Valley Community Church. This would be a great opportunity to invite your friends, guys you know at work and anyone else God puts on your heart. We will have a good breakfast from about 7:30-8:10. Then we will have great interactive discipleship and fellowship until 9:30 – we will end exactly at 9:30! Check it out – I think you will be ambushed by the Holy Spirit and you will see God more clearly than you have for a while.

Welcome to Kevin Higgins & Wayne Broome – it is great to have you at the table.

Moving from death to Life is all about the little choices we make!

Dear Boyz, 01/25/2008

Last Saturday was a high water mark for the Waterboyz for Jesus. God was clearly making a statement and so many of you were listening – it is a memory we will have into and for eternity! Thank you all 94 of you who experienced ‘pure religion’. If anyone wants to join us in helping cover the cost of the carpet (still need $750) let me know.

Tomorrow Kim Whirley (a single mom whose husband walked out on the family) needs help moving her stuff into storage. We have a few men who have signed up but need 4 or 5 more (many hands make light work). If you missed last weekend or have a few hours tomorrow morning let me know.

This week Brian Dillman invited two of his friends from the Montgomery Police department – Wayne Hoyt & Rob Ulisney to the Tuesday morning table. It was great to meet you guys and listen to God’s voice together. Ralph Deleon (Judy’s neighbor) came to the Thursday noon table for the first time – welcome brother! Mark Scuderi went to visit Kenny (remember the story about the homeless guy in Mt Airy who came to the table?) to continue to provide accountability and fellowship. Mark commissioned Kenny to start a 10MEN Table in Thurmont – 100 Tables in 2008! God will accomplish His plans and purpose.

Finally, on February 9th from 7:30-9:30am we are having a gathering at Monocacy Valley Church in Frederick. This is a follow up to our ADVANCE and the theme will be ‘Doing the right things in 2008? (Discipleship, accountability, & Service.) More details will follow soon. Put this date in your day timers.

Every morning – get out of bed – look in the mirror and say out loud “There is a God and it isn’t ME!) In other words put God on the throne of your life right out of the gate each day and I guarantee you the day will go better.

Dear Family, 01/17/2008

Your response to this 'ask' has been very heart-warming! Jeff Beatty has been working REALLY hard along with Greg Lueck and others to get everything ready for Saturday. Thank you guys - you have each made a deposit into the Kingdom treasury!

Here are some last minute needs:

1. If anyone has a few hours they could spend on Friday getting things ready (sanding, prepping, priming walls) please let me know - Jeff Beatty and I will both be there off and on during the day
2. The carpeting on the second floor is absolutely awful - it is dirty and looks bad. If anyone wants to join me in throwing a little bit of money into a carpet fund - let me know. We have asked a few carpet places to donate the carpet and installation or to give us the 'deal of the century'.  Let me know if you are called to join me in this - if I hear from enough of you we will go ahead and do this. If we all gave $50 we could make this happen.

It is Thursday BUT Saturday is coming!!!

On January 19th we are going to play out 3 John 11 - we are going to imitate what is good (GOD) and we are going to Germantown to help a widow and her kids. The house is a mess, the alcoholic dad is dead of a massive stroke on his 45th birthday, she has MS, and if there was ever a project that screamed for the Waterboyz for Jesus to get involved with - THIS IS IT!! Stop and think for a minute - when is the last time you served someone, other than your family, for an hour or longer? As we studied 3 John this week God was speaking so clearly to all of us - we have got to SERVE SOMEONE! John says there is "no greater joy than this, to hear of God's children WALKING in the truth." If we don't do this we will get stale - we will begin to lose the war for our souls (memory verse) - we will stop being grateful for a God who served us all the way to a cross. I am calling you to serve in a manner worthy of God - who will join me?

Dear Boyz, 01/11/2008

This Thursday morning Eric Closs was reminding the men about what SCRAPS are (giving up something you normally spend money on to advance the Kingdom) .Then he shared how the SCRAPS had been used over the last year. After doing this, the meeting continued and as usual the Spirit showed up and men saw Truth more clearly. As they were getting ready to pay the bill the waitress informed them that three men who had been sitting at the table next to theirs had given her $20 and asked her to be sure it got to the SCRAPS fund. How cool is that? 3 John 5 says “Beloved, you are acting faithfully in whatever you accomplish for the brethren, and especially when they are strangers.” This past Thursday morning this verse came alive at the Four Seasons Restaurant in Mt Airy. – Praise GOD!

On January 19th we are going to play out 3 John 11 – we are going to imitate what is good (GOD) and we are going to Germantown to help a widow and her kids. The house is a mess, the alcoholic dad is dead of a massive stroke on his 45th birthday, she has MS, and if there was ever a project that screamed for the Waterboyz for Jesus to get involved with – THIS IS IT!! I am calling you to serve in a manner worthy of God – who will join me?

This Wednesday we are fasting for three men who are in need of a job or in need of more income. Will you join me in this? Jesus told his disciples that there are some things that only happen if there is fasting and praying. Let’s go to war for our brothers because we ARE our brothers keepers – we are!

Your Brother and proud of it!

Dear Boyz, 12/21/2007

This is the stretch run for getting everyone on our shopping list just the right present – are you feeling any pressure? Hopefully I won’t see you out at CVS on Christmas Eve buying whatever is left on the shelves!!

With all the ‘noise’ going on during this time of year are you listening for God to speak His plans for you in 2008? Take some time in your prayer closet and just quiet yourself and listen – He has been waiting for quality time to speak some VERY exciting plans into your life.

I want to thank each of you for prayerfully listening about your place in MISSION:India. We have the 18 digital cameras – THANK YOU! We have 3 laptops so if you have any laying around – please let me know. So far 20 orphans have been adopted and will soon learn that someone in America loves them in Jesus name – you guys are AWESOME!

Have a great holiday and I know that 2008 is going to be a watershed – landmark year in the history of the Waterboyz for Jesus!

Your Brother on the Journey

Nothing new to report this week check last weeks info below.  The only thing that has changed is our Scripture memory verses and a few service ops.  You can check them out on the homework and srvice ops pages.

Dear Boyz,  12/14/2007

The MISSION:INDIA team is back from India – If you haven’t read the two part story of our trip check it out at www.waterboyz.org/india.html. I am SO grateful to be part of an organization that is having such an impact for the Kingdom all over the world. Everywhere we went in India we saw evidence of the Waterboyz giving drinks of living water – 76 women in Calcutta are operating micro businesses because of seed money we gave them, a pastor is riding around the city on a motorbike purchased with Waterboyz funds, 100 orphans are living in a dorm built with funds we provided, 30+ ‘at risk’ girls are using a wash machine we purchased for them, the list goes on and on. Thank you again for all you have done and for being willing to be used in so many powerful ways.

Christmas is only a few days away – so here are a couple of last minute gift ideas to pray about with your family at the dinner table tonight:

Do you have a digital camera that works? 18 Dream Centers need that camera to help with finding sponsors for all the kids.

Do you have an out-of-date laptop? 18 Dream Centers could use this to stay in touch with headquarters.
Are your kids willing to do without one present so an orphan can have a Christmas? For $25 they will get a brand-new outfit of clothes, a small steel box to put their few possessions in, and all the shots they need to keep them from getting many of the ailments so prevalent in that region.
For $25/month you can sponsor a child in a 24/7 365 day residential Christ-based dream center where Jesus is lifted up and dreams become a reality.

NEWSFLASH – Bernie Thompson starts his new job this coming Monday – WAHOO!!!!!

Something cool that Xerox is doing:

If you go to this web site, www.letssaythanks.com , you can pick out a thank you card and Xerox will print it and it will be sent to a soldier that is currently serving in Iraq. You can't pick out who gets it, but it will go to some member of the armed services. How AMAZING it would be if we could get everyone we know to send one!!! This is a great site. Please send a card. It is FREE and it only takes a second.

Dear Boyz,  11/23/2007

Yesterday morning 16 men came to the Four Seasons restaurant to spend time with God and with each other. They asked God to speak through His word and through each of the men at the table – and HE DID! PRAISE GOD! I am certain as each of these men went back to their families with more thankfulness in their hearts. What a way to start a day where we celebrate all the blessings each of us have received.

Yesterday one of the Boyz sat down with his step-son and talked with him about his journey of faith with God, about how much he wanted the same for him. During that conversation this young man asked how to start, David lead he and his girlfriend through the sinners prayer. Because of this mans faithfulness the Kingdom is larger by two today – as men become bolder for Him, a harvest will follow. Jesus said that the fields are white for the harvest but the workers are few. We are a ministry that is dedicated to “helping ordinary men become mighty warriors in the Kingdom”.

Next Friday five Waterboyz are headed to India on a “Discovery” trip. We covet your prayers as we seek to listen and learn what God’s plans are for us. On Sunday the 2nd we will be meeting with 35 rickshaw pullers and their families; Monday the 3rd we will be helping to dedicate the addition the Waterboyz funded at the Barakatti orphanage; Tuesday the 4th we will be visiting the Lodha Tribe orphanage construction site – WORK HAS BEGUN!; and on Thursday the 5th we will be visiting the ‘at risk’ orphanage for young girls in Kalimpong. Pray for each one of us during these 10 days!

Your Brother on the Journey (and loving it!)

Dear Boyz,  11/15/2007

Here is a story from the Wednesday morning 10MEN Table leader – David Sefcik. It doesn’t get any better than this!

A Good Samaritan Story I was privileged to witness firsthand.  To start things off, I am walking into the Four Seasons restaurant and look over and see someone that looked like he was sleeping in his car. I say to myself, that looks like Mark Scuderi.  I then said to myself that can’t be Mark, he doesn’t attend on Wednesday; beside he wouldn’t be in his car. He always goes right inside.  Well a few minutes later in walks Mark.  This is where the story really starts.

Un-be known to me, Mark sees a man in the parking lot on the way in and as he often does, strikes up a conversation (Mark is known as our table’s Evangelist).  He finds out the man is homeless, digs in his pocket and gives the man some money. Then right before the meeting started he went out to his car to get a daily devotional and give it to the man.  I still know nothing about this at this point. About 10 minutes into the meeting, Mark gets up and disappears.  Then he comes back in and sits down.  Later I found out Mark saw Kenny (this man) walk by and peek his head in at our table.  Mark had gone out to invite this man to our table. A few minutes later Kenny comes in and takes a seat. Kenny briefly shares his misfortune…he has been separated from his wife for 2 months, his family briefly helped him out then rejected him, he lives in a tent in the woods across the street from the restaurant.  His home is in Thurmont.  I asked him why did you settle here?  He said Mt. Airy is where he grew up.  He pretty much walked from Thurmont to go back to his roots.

Mark gets up again from the table this time about half way through the meeting (again, I did not know this till later).  Mark goes up to the waitress and tells her to be sure to not let this man go hungry, and that if he comes in Thanksgiving day, he is covered.  And to top this, I notice Mark talking to several men out in the main area.  I thinking to myself he is out there inviting more men to the table.  Well what he was doing is letting the “regulars” know that this man needed help and asking them if they wanted or could help out in any way.  Can you believe it!  We SOAP’d with Kenny, bought him breakfast, and spent a few minutes afterwards getting to know Kenny a little better.  Honestly, I had no idea what to do or how to help him.  I pleaded with Mark…please do not leave me by myself.  I need your help on this. The only thing I knew  to do was to ask Kenny whether he was saved.  He has been a believer for years; in fact he said that knowing the Lord is the only thing that has helped him get through this.  Again, I was not even aware of this until later, but several men at the table also dug in their pockets and provided Kenny with some money (Scraps). I left and Mark stayed. This is where the story begins again.  I call Mark a half hour later to confess my inability to know how to help someone in this situation. He starts telling me that he gave him a Bible, he was making arrangements to put him 2 nights at the inn next door so he could clean up, he was planning to take him to Wal-Mart to get him some new clothes if he needed it, and already had some idea on how to set him up with job.  He also said a church apparently will take Kenney in for 6 months.  I asked Mark, how did you know what to do?  He simply remarked, I just did what it says in the Good Samaritan story.  I did what I could, and now it is up to Kenny.  Just like in the Samaritan story, Mark took care of the man’s physical needs; even put him up for the night.  He also looked after his spiritual needs.  Now it is up to Kenny. When I shared my awe of Mark’s actions with Mark, his only response was how thankful he was for the opportunity. I couldn’t believe it…he was just thankful for the opportunity!  I need to learn from this man I thought to myself!    I am so grateful to know Mark Scuderi and for what he taught me this day. I got home and immediately went to Luke 10:30-37.  Mark was a neighbor to this man.  He took pity and had mercy on him, and cared for Kenny, one of God’s children.  Then he handed Kenny over to the Waitress and Innkeeper and asked them to look after him.  Jesus commands us (vs. 37) to “go and do likewise”. I am still in such awe of this morning and could hardly contain myself all day in wanting to share this story with you.

Dear Boyz, 11/07/2007

Last November I challenged each man at the three 10MEN Tables (we've since grown to 11), to write out 6 or 7 personal goals for 2007. This isn't a 'New Year's resolution' twist - that is usually a recipe for failure. My challenge was to prayerfully ask God what His plan's for you were in the upcoming year. The goals could be about relationships, ministry, personal
growth, the page is blank. God used this in my life to help align my plans with His, so get a notepad, go into your prayer closet and let God speak His vision into you for 2008. Write whatever God is saying to you down and bring it to the table next week.

When God first forced me to think about serving someone outside my family I was NOT a happy-camper. I can't fix anything (just ask my wife) and I don't like doing even the most mundane tasks like vacuuming, mowing the grass, painting, and of it - in fact I HATE IT! But because God made it clear that was where I could experience Him in a new a very personal way - I went. At the end of the first day of serving Him I experienced a joy I had never felt before. I loved the community that served with me in a new and deeper way, and I loved God more than I had ever loved Him before. If you have never done something like this before my 'ask' is this - try it once - see what happens. What can it hurt?

You have three (3) very cool serving projects to choose from in November. On Saturday the 10th several men from Damascus Road are going to Pastor Rajendra's home and blessing them with some long overdue improvements. Then
on Saturday the 17th we are helping move a single mom from Monocacy Valley church. It would be awesome for several of you to pitch in and help the boyz at MVC get this Waterboyz serving DNA off to a good start. Then the next day - Sunday the 18th we are going to feed 35 heroes at the Frederick Rescue Mission. These are men who at some point decided to stop the madness and turn to the Life-giver - Jesus Christ. They are betting their lives (literally) that He IS the answer to all their  pain, brokenness, and addictions.

Next week we will have the annual report ready for how the SCRAPS were used in 2007 to advance the Kingdom. There are SO many ways that a few tables of men have changed the world we live in. Thank you for being faithful to give
up something you like for something you want even more - TO ADVANCE THE DAY THAT JESUS WILL COME!
